It must have been 3 o’clock last night as i came down from my cliche-d high of caffeine, tauri

It must have been 3 o'clock last night as i came down from my cliche-d high of caffeine, taurine and cigarrettes that it struck me. I dont need to endure another northeastern, tepid, humid, want-to-be-like-california in the summer anymore. I could travel. And though I love to travel it must be said that yours truly is also a helpless agoraphobic who knows no reason but his own. Im not a cat lady however and dont mind dipping my toes into the foreign kiddie pool so long as i can stay away from a full immersion.

That is to say, I use floaties and stay near the shallow end.

But I couldnt help picturing myself in the warm embrace of the toxic heat of the caribbean, inhaling the fumes of the tongue-in-cheek (literally) hopefully scantily clad women sipping on pretty colored water while listening to "from 0-60 in 3.5" as the bar tender hands me a key mischievously. Happy thoughts in other words. The woman beside me, a 55 year old with the body of a 40 year old, the stamina of a 30 year old and the attitude of a 20 year old, would let her leg casually fall revealing taut skin and a toned body. Zing.

My mind, racing ahead of my body would have immortalized the experience in stone (or in a weblog, it's all relative). But thats not the point my dear reader, what happens to me on the beach before the eyes of a family of seven is none of your business. (though further inquiries are encouraged)

The true horror of the story is the unprotected sunburns, the tan lines highlighting the eternal contrast of white on bright pink or white on black. Like a pair of highlights they stand out in a sinewy land (capital pleasantville) and i wonder hot it got to be that we care more about the tan than the sun. The big gaping whole taking a load in every day as the sun rams its rays harder, farther and deeper than ever before. And all we do is open our gullets wider and wider making room for it, taking pounding after pounding.

Dont get me wrong. Its not about global warming.

Its a problem of global cooling.

Back in the 1990's, an animated series on Nickelodeon, called Rocko's Modern Life, debuted an episode that dealt with a number of environmental issues, such as water conservation, industrial pollution and, of course, recycling.

This song, simply called "R-E-C-Y-C-L-E", was the very backbone of the episode's message. It explains how global warming works and how our environment is being damaged. Although the animated series used comedy in its efforts to address this issue, its messages still ring true to this day.

LYRICS:

R-E-C-Y-C-L-E
Recycle!
C-O-N-S-E-R-V-E
Conserve!

Don't you P-O-L-L-U-T-E
Pollute the rivers, sky, or sea
Or else your gonna get what you deserve

The ozone is in horrible condition
From fluorocarbons in our atmosphere
They are too small to be seen with normal vision
But there's getting to be more of us each year!

We come from a variety of places
Like Styrofoam containers and aerosol cans
We love to eat the ozone
It's our favorite desert
And if you don't have an ozone then the sun can really hurt

I must admit we make a lot of garbage
This dump is filled up way above the brim
If we don't make an effort to recycle
The future could be looking mighty grim

Someone's cutting down the O-Town forest
It's not enough to sit around and grieve
If we don't protect our flora and our fauna
Then we won't have the oxygen to breath

R-E-C-Y-C-L-E
Recycle!
C-O-N-S-E-R-V-E

The social impact :

People often tend to talk exclusively about the measurable and visible consequences of the greenhouse effect. However, the political and social consequences will be equally far-reaching.

Firstly, it is a problem which cannot be solved by one country or one government. Climate change is a global phenomenon, which is all the more complex because its effects are different for each and every country. It is almost certain that specific countries will benefit from a climate change, while numerous others will only lose by it. The first group will be far less inclined to tackle the problem than the second. Differences are bound to occur among the losers, too: some will dispose of the money or the means to minimise the impact if not avoid it altogether, others will not...

http://weri-events.org/JE%20TOURNE%20...

Secondly, climate change, together with other environmental issues and the phenomenon of the overpopulation, will most probably cause poverty and hunger to increase globally. That will result in an ever stronger tendency of entire populations to migrate to places where there is no hunger and poverty.

Thirdly, there is the present conflict between Northern and Southern nations, which will be accentuated. For now the problem is compounded by the question who has the right to dispose of how much of the fresh water and of the agricultural land.

However, even within one single society on its own climate change will cause problems and material for conflicts. Thus, the health care system will have to adapt to different environmental factors, as will agriculture. Industry and households, too, will need to learn to use water differently - something that cannot be achieved if we do not change our attitude. The risk of floods becomes bigger, as well as the chance of long periods of drought, so that major infrastructural works will need to be carried out. Such works usually entail huge price tags. In some way or other we shall have to think of a solution for all those problems.

The taboo subject of physics… Upon preparing for th

Actually you can't return, can you?

The taboo subject of physics... Upon preparing for the classes I'll teach this fall, I went right back to the basics, trying to find the most general, fundamental, and useful idea I could get across to students, and settled finally on the First Law of Thermodynamics: the total Energy of the universe is constant. Naturally I immediately started looking around for other general laws that would bind the field together: conservation of momentum, of angular momentum (spin), charge, mass (actually the sum of mass and energy is the true constant, since E=mc^2; matter and energy are really one and the same.) Well, that's nice, a bunch of conserved quantities from which everything can be derived.

But then comes the boogyman - entropy. Not conserved. Or half-conserved, as they say - can be created but not destroyed. In order to decrease the entropy in something, you need a refrigerator, which dumps more entropy into the environment than it absorbs from the stuff being cooled. It turns out that we can't avoid this wierdness: it's always been obvious that heat (entropy) only flows from hot objects to cold objects and the reverse is never seen. The fact that there's an irreversible process at the heart of thermodynamics actually tells you instantly that something must not be conserved.

This "law" was so unpopular when it was proposed that papers were rejected, and its proponents were villified for being unscientific. It was assumed at the time that the holy grail of thermodynamics was to find conserved quantities that described heat flows, just as momentum and energy described mechanics.

Statistical mechanics came to the rescue, in a sense, when Maxwell and others realized that the second law might be interpreted as overwhelmingly likely, but not strictly forbidden. Maxwell realized that if the laws of mechanics that were assumed to govern molecular motion were indeed completely deterministic and time invariant (don't depend on the direction of time), flows of entropy from cold to warm bodies would be so incredibly rare that they would never be observed.

Most texts attribute the irreversibility of the 2nd law to this argument. Many physicists go on to claim that quantum mechanics, which we now know to be the appropriate theory of mechanics, is entirely reversible in time; that is, the Dirac or Schrodinger equations are time-invariant. Because they are time invariant, it is assumed that Maxwell's argument still holds as valid.

But this is wrong. Let me give an example. An atom is in an excited quantum state. It spontaneously emits a photon. The photon goes away. The atom returns to its ground state.

This is generally seen as an irreversible process. To reverse spontaneous emission would be a bizarre thing, but perhaps not inconceivable. Roll the process backwards, and you'd have a light pulse traveling toward the atom from all directions and then suddenly absorbed. So far so good. This is an incredibly improbable thing, but nevertheless one could imagine putting an atom in the center of a spherical mirror and having it re-absorb its spontaneously emitted photon: the process would look the same run forwards or backwards.

But nature has another thing in store for us: the measurement. In the Copenhagen interpretation of quantum mechanics, the moment the photon interacts with the surroundings - for example, it gets absorbed by another molecule - we say a measurement has been made, since a process that betrays the photon's momentum (undetermined immediately after the spontaneous emission) has occurred. People like to say that the "wavefunction collapsed."

Well that never really went over very well with me, but if you want to stick to that picture then you must admit that quantum mechanics is not time-invariant. If wavefunctions can "collapse", well that seems to me pretty darned irreversible. Run that backward in time and you don't get wavefunctions suddenly reconstructing themselves, you just get something completely different.

Another interpretation gaining popularity these days is the Feynman many-worlds interpretation. In this interpretation, quantum mechanics is indeed time invariant, and the "measurement" process simply marks a point where many possible world paths diverge. We live in a web of minbogglingly (but not infinitely) many possible pasts and futures. We always sit at the intersection between many possible pasts which converge to point us in the direction of many possible futures. The problem is, on the macroscopic scale, we only see one timeline. The universe is constructed in such a way that we only observe evidence of the parallel universes that are vanishingly similar to our own. Thus those that are very different from ours can have no effect on us.

But how do these other universes interact with ours? Is the number of possible universes increasing in time? If so, that might explain our increase in entropy. Perhaps entropy is a measure of the number of possible universes, and the more parallel universes there are, the more entropy we see in ours. Every time we cross one of these nodes, these intersections between possible pasts and possible futures, choices are being made (seemingly at random, but who knows really), and our physics tells us that they are irreversible. Each one of those choices, those "measurements", increases the entropy in our universe. so does the entropy increase because it flowed into our world from some other world? Is the entropy of all possible universes in total conserved, but the number of universes shrinking so that their entropy is transferred into ours? Does every event make possible past universes blip out of existence, leaving their entropy - plop - dumped into ours? And hey, who do they think they are anyway, these other universes, to use ours as a dumping ground for all their leftover entropy!

It's hard not to take this personally. As living creatures, we are in a constant struggle to resist the decay of our brains, our bodies, our ecosystem, all under constant attack by the dreaded second law. It's just darned offensive to think of other universes dumping entropy into ours, or perhaps even worse, sucking order out of ours! Actually that might make a great storyline for a Star Trek movie: evil creatures from another dimension come to the galaxy from some other universe that's become a total mess of disorder, and they mount a giant ORDER SUCKER - a huge wormhole that swallows solar systems whole, and spits out nothing but blackbody radiation! How can we stop them - and even more important - how can we get our order back, and shove their excess entropy back down their 26-dimensional throats?

Okay it's lookin like time to wrap this one up, but is there anything worthile learned here? Well, if there is, I'd say it has to be that if we're ever going to figure out where all that dang entropy is always coming from, we're going to at least have to decide what interpretation of quantum mechanics we like. If we like one world, it's an irreversible one for sure with bizarre collapsing wavefunctions, and we should not go around saying that quantum mechanics is time-invariant. If we hold that view, then we're going to have to figure out what happens to the entropy when measurements are made. So far, nobody's got any clue. On the other hand if we're going with the many-worlds, then it's just possible that there's entropy flowing between them and boy does that screw things up. Why not other thing flowing between the universes, like energy, charge, momentum? Perhaps because only the other universes which have exactly the same charge, energy, momentum, etc. as ours get to really interact with ours.

Well that's enough for now, catch you on the other side of the entropy hole...

By: John Keitel

The wall street journal is reporting that the Democrat party is have problems with their "greenest convention ever."

The Democrat hosting committee was hoping to achieve such things as organic hats and fanny packs made in the USA with union labor. They are unable to find a manufacturers of organic materials with a union labor force. It is reported that Bob Masse, convention merchandiser, said about finding organic unionized labor, "That just doesn't exist."

Imagine no unions in the organic movement, why aren't those good those good liberals using unions?

Now the blame for not being able to met the challenge is starting. The statement made by Denver Democrat Mayor John Hickenlooper challenging the convention to be the "greenest convention in the history of the planet." This from the Mayor that needs more than $18 Million extra tax dollars to keep the Denver mass transit system running this year. Article here.

In response environmental activist Andrea Robinson to the post of Director of Greening. Her response to this challenge, "That terrifies me!"

Ms. Robinson is actually testing the biodegradable balloons in her compose pile. She states that they have not degraded yet but she will add more water and more time to see if that will help.

Robinson has hired a Carbon Adviser responsible for calculating the "carbon foot print," counting everything from the air travel to the coffee ups. They will use carbon offsets to feel good about themselves. Al Gore should like taking their money for his carbon offset hedge fund.

Robinson is creating a 900 member "trash brigade" to monitor all trash disposal areas to make sure everyone is separating the trash properly. Then the trash will be checked piece by piece once more before it leaves the convention.

The food for the convention is also under fire. There will not be any fried foods. Each meal will include, "at least three of the following colors: red, green, yellow, blue/purple, and white."

The Democrat party is hoping to create lasting good habits. I thought the liberals already lived a perfect green life? Mayor Hickenlooper hopes that people will see this as "the new patriotism."

The "green team" has scaled back their hopes already by saying only 85% of refuse will be recycled and only 70% of the produce be organic and locally grown. They have already cut Colorado wines and beer. The wine because of inferior taste and beer because "its Coors." The Coors bottling company in Golden Colorado has family members in politics that are Republican and have used non-union labor in the past. This despite the donation of biofuel made from beer giant to run the conventions flex-fuel vehicles.

The bottom line is that if the balloons don't degrade they will still be used and the fanny packs and hats still purchased. This proves that despite the Democrat party lecturing the people of the United States of America that they should be green or harbor guilt even though they cannot do it themselves. This is because the technology is not economically viable to use or this "challenge" would be able to be achieved.

Global warming has become a important issue today..and more of a worry.! Lot of scientist across the

Global warming has become a important issue today..and more of a worry.! Lot of scientist across the world.. is searching for all the information regarding the global warming.
The North Pole and the predictions regarding the north pole.. is a big worry for the scientist and as well as for the people around the world.
It seems our worst fears may come true. For the first time in the human history, ice is on course to disappear entirely from the North Pole this year.
Its expected that "North Pole may be ice free for the first time this summer".
Firsthand, observations and satellite images show that the immediate area around the geographic North Pole is now mostly annual, or first-year, ice—thin new ice that forms each year during the winter freeze.
Such ice is much more tends to melt during the summer month, in comparison to perennial, thick and dense ice, that has lasted through multiple cycles of thawing and freezing.
IF it happens, it raises the prospect of the Arctic nations being able to exploit the valuable oil and mineral deposits below these a bed which have until now been impossible to extract because of the thick sea ice above.

The normally think ice formed over many years at the pole has been blown away and replaced by huge swathes of thinner ice formed over a single year. The rate of melting is faster than last year, when there was an all time record loss of summer sea ice at Arctic.

Scientists are particularly interested in the North and South Poles because they are expected to show the most dramatic effects of global warming.

Models predict that the regions will see temperature increases roughly three times as quickly as the rest of the globe because of an effect known as ice albedo feedback, which occurs when highly reflective ice gives way to dark water.

The water absorbs much more of the sun's energy, increasing temperatures and causing further ice melting.

Each summer the sea ice melts. But the last year, the loss of sea ice was so extensive that much of the Arctic Ocean became open water, with the water ice boundary coming just 1126.5 km away from the North Pole.

This means that about 70% of the sea ice present this spring was single year ice formed over last winter. Scientists predicts that much of the ice will melt this summer causing a global warming.

Here’s where the extent of sea ice in the Arctic stands now in relation to the average tracked between 1979 and 2000, and the remarkable ice loss in 2007:

Thus, all the data's clearly figure out the extending ice on the poles.. and the knocking of global warming with the meting of ice on these poles. This clearly results, in the temperature change and thus effecting the climatic conditions as well..!!!!

well.. lets wait and see when we can go through the clear image of this warming. Its expected not to reach by before 2013 to 2030.!

Thus, the global warming is not so far. And this can be easily visible in these , videos describing all the aspects of global warming and the melting of ice... on the North Pole.
