Either late tonight or tomorrow we begin our trek to Hilton Head. It's supposed to be a 13 1/2 hour drive. We'll see how long it takes us. We don't have reservations anywhere so this should be interesting.

We will stay in South Carolina until Thursday then we're headed back. Drew turns 9 on Friday and has to be back since he's having a sleep over party on Saturday.

I think my MIL has her laptop..but she is VERY protective. I in turn will be twittering. I get 500 twitters so I'm not going to follow everyone. I am following Bri, Rimshot, Jean, Hot...and I think that is it. If you follow me on Twitter or would like to be able to then go sign up...let me know though within the next couple hours.

so, ...5 days break in Bretagne with my mom's family   is always something! Damn I love them, they are the funniest. I have 4 oncles, and as many aunts, and all together they produced 13 kids, plus my sister and I. so yeah we were a little bunch there. Actually älskling and I and some cousins had to camp in the garden. It was fun. the house is big but not really equiped to welcome 23 people at the same time, taking 2 showers a day (after the beach to get the sand out of your bathing suit and hair) .   

the house is about 500 meters from the beach so it's really cool, you can totally walk there. the schedule was kinda the same everyday, waking up around 10, having a big breakfast with amazing baguettes of all kinds ;-)  taking the kids to their surf lesson, going to the market, lunch with tones of cookies , beach and swimming when you were very brave (i know it's july but it's still Bretagne, the water was at 16 degres) home around 7pm, playing games with the kids, reading, and dinner. Yeah eating was a big part of our stay :-)   Eventhough the weather wasn't totally awesome I got a nice tan and my hair got so blond !!

and here is a cookie älskling made... everyone loved it :-)

 to sum up, great stay.

Such was the case with Andrew Bird last night.  He makes an impressive one man band playing his violin while singing.  But he also totally rocks out when playing with his full band.  He apparently channels Jeff Buckley when he sings.  And he's the most artful whistler I've ever heard or seen.

Go buy one of his albums right now!  Then find a way to see him live.  You won't be sorry.

And lastly, here is the NEW Walk on Pathways Glitch/Cheat: A pathway is somewhere where when you usually go, it’ll take you to another place on the map, such as the right/left pathways next to the Town. However, with this cheat, you won’t be taken to another map. First, click on the part of the pathway you want to go to. Now while you’re still walking, click the Penguin Mail envelope at the top left. Stay in the P-Mail thing, viewing your postcards/mail, until you think you have stopped walking. Then exit P-Mail and you are standing on a pathway! Now you can dance, talk, whatever!

Sure the postal workers wouldn't like it, but they've been living on easy streets since e-mail anyway.

First came the joystick. Then came the motion-sensing Wii remote. Now get ready for another radical and rather unsettling leap in video games technology: thought control.

The ways in which computer 'games' and war are converging are multitudinous and endlessly fascinating on a number of levels. As a training tool, as a recruiting device, as a weapons control system... the list goes on. It used to be that military technology produced 'spin-offs' which entered the civilian commercial sector in the form of consumer products; nowadays the process is as likely to work the other way with 'spin-on' from civilian technologies in the commercial sector finding significant military use (for eg., a laptop with connection to the WWW, Google Earth, and mobile phones gives you a pretty decent C4ISR capability for a few hundred pounds). One can easily imagine the military uses of a system like the one described above which allows the control of devices by thought.

Leave aside the obvious thought-controlled airplanes, vehicles, missiles and so on. This part I found very interesting, even if I'm not sure exactly what it means:

Last month the Defence Advanced Research Projects Agency (Darpa), an arm of the US Defence Department, said it had awarded a $6.7 million contract to Northrop Grumman to develop “brainwave binoculars”. The binoculars use scalp-mounted sensors to detect objects the user might have seen but not noticed - in other words, the computer is used as a kind of brain-aid, giving the user superhuman vision.

Explaining the technology, Dr Robert Shin, an assistant professor of neurology and ophthalmology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, said: “There is a level where the brain can identify things before it ever makes it to the conscious level. Your brain says, ‘it may be something', but it might not realise that it is something that should rise to the conscious level.”

If I translate this correctly what they're saying is that a soldier wearing such a device might act as a sensor  in a grid (this is already somewhat the case--it's a question of the growth in sensititity and velocity of information flow). I can imagine all sorts of interesting effects of such a grid. For instance a sniper fires from cover at an infantry section on patrol. No individual soldier sees the shot's exact origin but they all from their individual perspectives orient their attention to its general vicinity. Result: triangulation. Put a 'shoot here' icon on a head-up-display. Hey presto a counter-sniper system with a organic sensing capability.

They changed the little plastic scoop in my laundry detergent box.

There must have been a big breakthrough in "plastic scoop technology".

I'm going to keep using the old scoop on the right though.

I wanted somebody to love me with that kinda soul madness - until I got it, and found out that it wasn't so much fun. The best part was wanting it - feeling that heart wrenching desire  - vodka on a Friday night brings it all back, 30 something years later. Mad soul always.
