Academy-award winning director Martin Scorsese and actor Robert De Niro are teaming up once again for a film. The movie will be an adaptation of Charles Brandt's book 'I Heard You Paint Houses' - about a mob assassin Frank Sheeran, who is believed to have been involved in the death of America's largest labour union Teamster's boss Jimmy Hoffa.

It is going to be produced by Paramount Pictures, the screenplay will be written by Steve Zaillian of 'American Gangster' and 'Schindler's List' fame.

According to the film based on that book, Sheeran, who is reputed to have carried out more than 25 mob murders confessed certain of them to Brandt including the killing and dismemberment of Hoffa.

Wherein Scorsese will direct the thriller on organized crime, Robert De Niro will play Frank "the Irishman" Sheeran.

The principals behind DreamWorks SKG and Paramount Pictures sealed their parting of ways on Sunday, allowing the DreamWorks studio to tie up with Reliance ADA Group of India to start a new film company.

As part of the agreement, the DreamWorks principals' new company will take the lead on a number of development projects, which Paramount will have the option to co-finance and co-distribute, the studios said in a joint statement.

The separation agreement involved 200 DreamWorks-developed projects with DreamWorks taking the lead on 15 to 20, according to trade reports. Paramount will take the lead on about 15 to 20 projects, permitting the Reliance-backed venture to co-finance and co-distribute.

Paramount will keep in its fold the remainder of the 200 projects, but the two appeared on Sunday to have parted ways amicably, leaving open the possibility of further collaboration.

DreamWorks, co-founded by director Steven Spielberg, is also expected as early as this week to announce a new studio distribution partner, widely expected to be General Electric Co's Universal, which will provide either domestic or international distribution on the shared Paramount projects, said a source familiar with the discussions.

Most DreamWorks staff are expected to be offered positions at the new company, DreamWorks and Paramount said. DreamWorks co-founder David Geffen will not join the new company.

In addition, Spielberg will continue to produce the Transformers franchise for Paramount and will also collaborate on three other Paramount films including, "When Worlds Collide."

The Hollywood-Bollywood linkup of DreamWorks and the Mumbai-based entertainment, financial and telecommunications giant two weeks ago caps two years of speculation and feuding between the DreamWorks partners and executives from Paramount and its corporate parent, Viacom Inc.

"We have had a great run with the DreamWorks team both creatively and financially," said Brad Gray, chairman and chief executive of Paramount Pictures. "In particular, it has been a true honor working closely with a storyteller of Steven's talent and stature."

Spielberg added: "Brad is a friend and I am pleased to be able to continue to work with him and his team with whom we have shared many successes."

Despite their uneasy partnership, DreamWorks continued to churn out successful movies for Paramount, including last year's hits "Transformers," "Disturbia" and "Blades of Glory."

DreamWorks Animation, a separate publicly held studio run by another DreamWorks co-founder, Jeffrey Katzenberg, has its own distribution deal with Paramount through 2012.

No, no estoy hablando de las canas de Ford, sino que del agotamiento de George Lucas y Steven Spielberg que nos presentan la más floja de las cuatro películas de Indiana Jones, la cual se sustenta principalmente por el cariño que se le tiene a las primeras tres y, en menor medida, a las actuaciones que sirven también para recordar los viejos personajes. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull debía ser la gran película de aventuras de la década, sin embargo, queda muy por detrás de la trilogía de Pirates of the Caribbean y peligrosamente cerca de al menos la primera The Mummy.

El gran pecado de Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull es que se queda pegada en el tiempo y trata de replicar las mismas historias que se vieron en Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981), Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984) e Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989), pero con mucha menos fuerza y gracia que sus predecesoras. La cinta de Steven Spielberg tiene el peor humor irónico de las cuatro cintas, la historia más floja y el personaje antagonísta más caricaturezco de todos, ya que aunque Cate Blanchett es una buena actriz, su personaje es un mal chiste, partiendo por su look y terminando por unos diálogos que no convencen a nadie. Resulta que la película no parte mal, de hecho asume la imagen colectiva nostálgica que los fans tienen de las cintas anteriores, sin embargo, cae en un letargo a medida que se acerca a la mitad del metraje de la cual no repunta en ningun momento. La utilización de Shia LaBeouf para cumplir las funciones que en Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade recayeron en Sean Connery es interesante, pero no se acerca a los talones de lo hecho por el ex 007. En resumen esta es una película medianamente entretenida, con una fotografía que rememora a la trilogía original y que sirve para reencontrarse con el entrañable personaje interpretado por Harrison Ford, sin embargo, quien se siente a verla se arriesga un poco.

Roma - A seguito del meritato exploit nelle sale, la pellicola incentrata sulla vicenda del supereroe corazzato Iron Man ha sbancato anche in home video. Il film ha venduto tanto, troppo, oltre le aspettative almeno per quanto riguarda la versione in Blu-ray, al punto da far collassare i server approntati da Paramount Pictures per gestire le funzionalità BD-Live della release.

BD-Live rappresenta l'ultima specifica attualmente codificata del formato hi-def di Sony, e permette di sfruttare la connessione di rete per il download di contenuti aggiuntivi non presenti originariamente sul disco in commercio. Nel caso di Iron Man le richieste di download hanno superato le capacità infrastrutturali del servizio, impedendo il suo corretto sfruttamento e, quel che è peggio, provocando un ritardo tale da far credere agli acquirenti che il supporto fosse difettato.

Il download parte non appena si inserisce il disco nel lettore e solo gli utenti di PlayStation 3 sono in condizione di gestire il download in modo autonomo. Il problema è stato tale da obbligare Paramount a rilasciare un comunicato sull'argomento, rassicurando sul pronto incremento di server a disposizione degli utenti e sul fatto che il disco fosse "un'offerta Blu-ray davvero allo stato dell'arte con un'applicazione BD-Live inedita nel suo genere".

Un'applicazione che forse è sin troppo inedita, al punto da sollevare per l'ennesima volta interrogativi sulle caratteristiche del formato Blu-ray, che ancora fa discutere esperti, commentatori e gli stessi esponenti dell'industria tecnologica anche dopo la conquista del mercato dell'alta definizione seguita alla sconfitta del rivale HD DVD, supportato da Toshiba e dal DVD Forum.

In casi del genere è sin troppo semplice paragonare la praticità dei download digitali su P2P alle spigolosità crescenti dei prodotti offerti dall'industria: tra DRM invalidanti e applicazioni "allo stato dell'arte" capaci di farti attendere davanti allo schermo muto per un'ora prima di poterti godere il film appena acquistato, scaricare la pellicola da BitTorrent ancorché illecita è certamente l'opzione più frequentata dagli utenti di personal computer mediamente informati sui fatti della vita, l'universo e tutto quanto.

Indian businessman Anil Ambani, CEO of the huge Reliance Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group, and the sixth richest man in the world, recently flew to Los Angeles to finalize the deal between his company and Steven Spielberg's DreamWorks, investing more than five hundred million dollars in the American company, thus enabling it to gain its independence and become a full-fledged movie studio.

JPMorgan Chase will provide up to $700 million in financing for the deal, with Reliance providing an additional $550 million, according to The Times of India.

Current DreamWorks CEO Stacey Snider will continue his duties for the new studio which will start operations in January and is expected to continue being called DreamWorks. The deal comes after Spielberg & co decided to end their unhappy partnership with Paramount Pictures at the end of their contracts.

Aside from Elizabeth Gilbert's spiritually prompting memoir, she has produced a handful of noteworthy pieces. • Guillermo del Toro is now booked through 2017: Universal has a three-year first-look deal with the helmer inked in June ’07, and has made a long-term commitment with del Toro by setting up four directing projects, including remakes of:
  • "Frankenstein": "To me, Frankenstein represents the essential human question: ‘Why did my creator throw me here, unprotected, unguided, unaided and lost?’" del Toro said. "With that one, they will have to pry it from my cold dead hands to prevent me from directing it."
  • "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde": del Toro wants to stick more closely to Robert Louis Stevenson’s prose and explore the addictive high the repressed Jekyll experienced as his murderous alter ego.
  • "Slaughterhouse-Five": del Toro plans to provide a more literal interpretation, hewing closely to the Vonnegut novel about a prisoner in a German WWII POW camp who travels through time and space.
  • An adaptation of "Drood," a Dan Simmons novel acquired by U that will be published in February.
  • In addition, the studio still has its sights set on del Toro’s pet project, an adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft’s "At the Mountains of Madness."'
  • del Toro’s first priority is New Line and MGM’s "The Hobbit," to which he has committed the next five years.
  • U also has on the horizon an adaptation of David Moody’s apocalyptic novel "Hater" that del Toro will produce with Mark Johnson but not direct, and "Crimson Peak," a gothic romance spec script by del Toro and his "Mimic" collaborator Matthew Robbins, which del Toro will produce but not direct.

• The few rules governing logos remain largely unwritten. The distributor always goes first. They have a pecking order that depends on who's executive producing the movie, whose production company is most involved. Studios don't like it when another company's logo spends more time onscreen than theirs does. Most max out at 14 or 15 seconds (Walt Disney Pictures' enchanted castle is longest, at 30). Leave one off and risk a lawsuit, as Warner found after chopping the Ladd Co. tree from DVD prints of "Body Heat" and "Chariots of Fire."

• Bill Martin and Mike Schiff ("Grounded for Life") have been named exec producer-showrunners of CBS comedy project "We Need Girlfriends." Based on a series of YouTube videos, "We Need Girlfriends" centers on three recent college grads who enter the Gotham dating scene after all of their girlfriends dump them at once. Besides "Grounded for Life," Martin and Schiff's credits include "Cavemen" and "3rd Rock From the Sun." Here's what drew my attention: Sony-based Darren Star is also exec producing. That Darren Star fellow...always bringing the hot older, successful women characters. And then bringing them down with trite, self-absorbed and somewhat repetitive bitchfests about their love lives and "careers".

• One of the more interesting new media ideas I've heard recently: "CSI" creator Anthony Zuiker has made a seven-figure deal with Dutton to create a series of three suspense-thriller "digital novels. Project is a publishing hybrid that broadens traditional book reading into a multiplatform experience that includes filmed components and an interactive social networking site. At the conclusion of each five chapters, readers will be given codes to log onto a website that will feature two-minute filmed vignettes providing a cinematic bridge to the next five chapters. At the book’s conclusion, readers can join an online community in which they can interact with others and hatch characters and storylines. The best suggestions will be incorporated into future titles, Zuiker said. Zuiker’s first interactive title, "Sqweegel," will be published by Dutton in fall 2009. Series revolves around an ex-FBI forensic investigator who retired early after his entire family was murdered. He becomes a rogue forensic detective, taking on cases that are too grim and graphic for "CSI." Zuiker will write a 60-page outline for each book, then supervise a novelist who’ll turn it into a 100-chapter book. Zuiker will write and direct 20 "cyber-bridges," the two-minute video segments that supplement the pages. The series will seek to bring advertisers to publishing through product placement in the book and the Web portal. "I learned from TV and Silicon Valley that advertisers want multiple levels of audience engagement," Zuiker said. He hopes to turn the series into a feature. Trident Media Group’s Dan Strone and Brillstein Entertainment Partners made the deal.

• Universal Pictures and Imagine Entertainment has set Wes Anderson to write "My Best Friend," a remake of the 2006 Patrice Leconte-directed French comedy "Mon meilleur ami." Anderson is also eying the project as a directing vehicle. Brian Grazer and Agnes Mentre will produce. Rosalie Swedlin will be executive producer. The French pic starred Daniel Auteuil as a cranky antiques dealer who learns at a dinner with his closest acquaintances that none of them really like him because of his harsh manner and selfishness. When his business partner bets him a valuable vase that he can’t produce a best friend, the dealer tries to get an amiable cab driver to pose as his buddy.

• Paramount Pictures has made a deal with Wildbrain to turn its Kidrobot branded collectible character creations into a series of feature films that will be a mix of animation and live action. The films will be generated through Par's Nickelodeon Movies family label and produced by Scott Aversano, who made an overall producing deal with the studio after ankling his post as head of the Nick and MTV Films labels. Kidrobot prexy-founder Paul Budnitz will be an executive producer along with Wildbrain head of creative Bob Higgins and prexy-CEO Charles Rivkin. The creatures come with no linear storyline, so the plan is to draft a writer for pen a story about ordinary kids who are transported into the edgy world populated by the Kidrobot creatures. Wildbrain, which acquired the company from Budnitz, is the producer of the Nick Jr. series "Yo Gabba Gabba!," and "Higglytown Heroes" for the Disney Channel, and a prolific maker of commercials.

Viacom should sell Paramount Pictures to give a boost to its wilting stock price, says Pali Capital analyst Richard Greenfield. Time Warner could be an interested buyer because it "will have significant cash at year-end and has stated its desire to expand its content business." Digital Cinema Implementation Partners' (DCIP) agreement with Twentieth Century Fox, Walt Disney Motion Pictures, Paramount Pictures, Universal Studios and Lionsgate Films is a done deal. The studios will fund the deployment of digital projection systems to nearly 20,000 movie theatre screens across North America, including the AMC, Cinemark and Regal theatre chains. (Cynopsis 10/2)

The International Rescue Committee paid tribute on September 28th  to Paul Newman, who died Sept. 26, in his Connecticut home at age 83.  He was a generous supporter of the International Rescue Committee and the cause of refugees, said George Rupp, IRC president.

In a recent fundraising appeal, Newman wrote, “I have played a variety of roles over the years, but none has been as important and personally rewarding as the real-life role I play as a supporter of the International Rescue Committee.”“The funds Paul Newman helped us to raise have made it possible for the IRC to save countless lives in crisis zones around the world,” Rupp said.  “We are proud that the IRC was among the beneficiaries of his extraordinary philanthropic endeavors." He also narrated a seven-minute documentary about the IRC in 2003.

When the movie “Road to Perdition,” his last major on-screen performance, had its New York premiere in 2002, Newman arranged for the IRC to share in the evening’s proceeds.

In a move that could start a new wave in PC sales, Dell and Paramount Pictures today announced that they have signed a joint venture that will see “Iron Man” come pre-loaded on Dell computers for anyone who wishes to order the unit. Another drawn-out court battle is brewing over consumer rights to digital content with the official release of RealNetworks' RealDVD software. RealDVD allows Windows users to make a digital copy of store-bought DVDs (extras and all) and save a backup copy of the movie to their hard drives for transfer to DVD-R. RealNetworks figures the product is legal because it leaves CSS encryption intact, making uploading and sharing of the ripped DVD a challenge. But just to be sure, the Seattle-based company filed a pre-emptive lawsuit against the studios and the MPAA yesterday asking for a declaratory judgment protecting it against legal action. Sure enough the MPAA cried foul, filing a temporary restraining order itself against RealNetworks for violation of copyright protections. MPAA attorney Greg Goeckner even managed to insert a pithy one-liner into the brief, referring to RealDVD as "StealDVD." (Cynopsis 10/1)

To win a bigger share of the global electronics marketplace, Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. is rebranding as Panasonic Corp., discarding a 90-year-old corporate identity. The company currently markets three electronics brands -- Matsushita, National and Panasonic. Of these, Panasonic has the highest global profile, according to a survey by the consultancy Interbrand. Controle absoluto foi uma idéia do aclamado diretor / produtor Steven Spielberg, pedaços arrancados de outros filmes como Corre Lola Corre, Identidade Borne e Inimigo do estado ‘’indiscretamente’’ plagiada pelo diretor. (Se eu estiver enganado, Perdão Spielberg, sou seu fã). A idéia de Spielberg era lançá-lo a 11 anos atrás, mas por se tratar de um filme tecnológico, decidiu engavetar o projeto e esperar um pouco mas da geração que estava se globalizando para melhor engolir esta história. Esta foi uma boa e má idéia de Spielberg. Má porque???, vamos rever os fatos.

O roteiro para ser escrito por 8 roteiristas:
Tudo b... perai, ai está o erro. 8 cabeças não pensam melhor do que uma ou duas ou três, este excesso de cabeças matou um projeto que deveria ter se tornado uma grande obra no mínimo para ser lembrada porque a idéia é (apesar de chupada) muito boa.

O filme conta as difíceis horas que um jovem ‘’Jerry’’ (LaBeouf) e uma mulher ‘’Rachel’’ (Michelle Monaghan) têm de passar como foragidos do FBI acusados de terrorismo, correndo direto para escaparem das armadilhas e perseguições da policia sem saber do que verdadeiramente estão sendo acusados, contudo, alem de um ao outro, eles sô podem contar com uma misteriosa voz (Pelo Celular) que demonstra ter um absurdo poder tecnológico capaz de parar ou modificar o transito e ate mesmo controlar todo tipo de objeto mecanizado ou elétrico.

Mesmo podendo contar com uma equipe de peso (embora sua maioria atue em segundo plano) Controle Absoluto infelizmente não da conta de sua aguardada recepção caindo na mesmice clichê atual tornando-se então, mais um ‘apenas bom’ blockbuster de 2008.

Como disse antes, o erro não esta nas boas atuações, não, não estão nos adequados efeitos especiais, não, o erro esta no maldito roteiro assinado por 8 malditas mãos. Estes por sua vez desenvolveram uma historia que apenas funciona bem em seu começo e seu meio, quando tudo ainda é desconhecido, quando nossos heróis correm, fogem, lutam e se tornam os ‘’rebeldes’’ para sobreviver, quando a identidade da sexy e chamativa voz do celular (que os conduz) não é revelada, quando os últimos 40 minutos não preenchem a tela de forma previsível.

Por outro lado, e uma boa hora para conferir o desenvolvimento e amadurecimento do ator Shia LaBeouf de 22 anos para o cinema adulto (não só por causa da barbicha ou do cigarro), eu sou um fã do ator desde que o mesmo atuava ainda na série da disney ‘’Mano a Mana’’, e tem sido realmente muito bom ver como o ator conquistou seu espaço no cinema agora protagonizando filmes, já que ele antes de estrelar em paranóia, aparecia apenas em segundo plano. De qualquer forma sua atuação é satisfatória em todos os filmes que atua e com certeza, tem um grande futuro prospero no mundo da fama. Claro Sem esquecer de Michelle Monaghan que também conseguiu convencer embora não roubando tanto a atenção quanto seu parceiro de cena.

Apesar da crítica deprimente, apesar dos furos do roteiro não muito convincentes (Jerry escapando diversas vezes de situações que poderiam tê-lo matado naturalmente como na cena em que pula de um prédio amortecendo sua queda apenas em uma tenda e esbarrando inteiramente seu corpo nos trilhos de um trem, ou se jogar de um trem em movimento e sair ileso) Controle Absoluto não chega a ser um filme ruim, e um blockbuster repleto de ação, efeitos especiais e uma correria que te desliga o cérebro e te deixa anestesiado cena por cena mesmo ate em seu suposto 'feio' encerramento.

Resumindo Eduardo, é um filme legal para se assistir no cinema certo?
sim, sem ‘muitas’ dúvidas, eu apenas não curti muito porque esperava um pouco mais deste filme, isso não significa que você não vá gostar :)

Universal Pictures has pulled out of Steven Spielberg's (the Indiana Jones films) and Peter Jackson's (King Kong) forthcoming Tintin trilogy because they didn't agree upon how much the directors should be paid (Spielberg and Jackson wanted 30% of the gross). Now correct me if I'm wrong, but shouldn't issues such as salary be discussed in the early stages rather than when the movie is supposed to start filming? In any case, Paramount Pictures has stepped in, despite the studio's current sour relationship with Spielberg.

In related news, British actor Simon Pegg has revealed that he and his Hot Fuzz co-star Nick Frost have been offered the role of detectives Thompson and Thomson (aka Dupond and Dupont originally) in the films, but didn't say if he'd accepted the part or not.

The Tintin films will be based on one of the most popular and timeless comic books of all time, from Belgian author/artist Hergé. Spielberg has been trying to adapt the books since the early eighties, and is clearly passionate about the project, so even though I'm not convinced about the motion-capture route they're taking, I trust them.

My only problem with the films is that they seem to be casting only English actors in the roles, whereas Tintin is of course originally in French. Ever since this project was announced I've been hesitating about starting a petition demanding the film be made originally in French, with subtitled and dubbed versions released in the US and other countries, but I guess it's too late now.
