If you have the GUS.FM 128kbs Shoutcast stream bookmarked to your media player, make note that we have transitioned to a new server which is online now. You may simply go to the GUS.FM website and click on the listen link in the current song playing window which will open to the new stream address and refresh your bookmark. Or you can enter this url into your media browser:

http://67.159.44.161:8108/listen.pls

We will pull the plug on the original Shoutcast 128kbs stream on 9/1/08.

Though we have diligently made changes to all known portals, we're aware that in time there are many relays that have voluntarily, and unknown to us, picked up our webcast.

If you know of such a situation, please contact that individual service and link them back to this message, or email us at contact@gus.fm.

Bəlkə də indiki zamanda "radio" sözü nisbətən arxaik səslənir, amma hələ də əhəmiyyətini itirməyib. Son zamanlar radioverilişləri həm peyk, həm də internet vasitəsi ilə də dinləmək mümkündür. Radio yayımı internet və televiziya olmayan yerlərdə bizi informasiya qıtlığından xilas edir. Cibə yerləşə bilən balaca radioqəbuledicini işə salmaqla, qısa dalğalar diapazonu vasitəsi ilə hətta dünyanın istənilən yerindən radio yayımından faydalanmaq və bununla da dövlət tərəfindən qadağan olunmuş məlumatları həmin diapazon vasitəsi ilə müxalif radiostansiyaların verilişlərindən almaq mümkündür.
Radio vasitəsi ilə, bildiyimiz kimi, yalnız informasiya deyil, musiqi qəbul edənlər də var. Onlar işdə, maşında, yolda sevdikləri radiostansiyanın dalğalarına köklənərək, həmin radiostansiyanın verilişlərindən faydalanırlar.

NextMedia Radio wanted to improve their Internet radio business model and customer experience, while allowing customization for each of their 27 local markets. Specifically, NextMedia wanted to offer their customers the same local broadcasting and content they are used to, and generate revenue through a custom, ad-supported media player. Abacast developed customizable players for each online station, complete with unique station branding and ad management, all integrated with Abacast’s unicast and peer-assisted delivery.

The media players have local RSS and weather feeds, synchronized banner ad spots for the title sponsor, station promotion ad spots and the ability for the user to request a song, or in the case of talk radio, send information. Also, the players have menus with links to sample other affiliated stations in the region. When clicked on, the player transforms into the station selected complete with logo and branding dynamically swapped in.

Behind the scenes, all the players feature Silverlight for cross-platform compatibility, working on Internet Explorer, FireFox, and Safari. The players incorporate video gateway ads or station webcams as well as ad injection to replace terrestrial content. When not showing video, the player window displays a Flash slideshow of station pictures taken to add an element of personalization to the player.

Interesting article in Saturday's Washington Post about how Pandora internet radio is facing heightened fees that might force them to shut down the site. A good summary is provided here and quoted in part below.

1. The royalty payments at stake are supposed to compensate performers (and their record labels) for the use of their music, much as songwriters have long received a small royalty payment for the use of their work.

2. But unlike royalties paid to songwriters, these "performance royalties" don't apply to FM or AM -- whether analog or digital HD Radio broadcasts -- but do cover satellite, cable and Internet broadcasts.

3. Cable and satellite broadcasts pay a simple percentage of their revenues.

4. The proposals cooked up by the Copyright Royalty Board (a panel of judges appointed by the Librarian of Congress to settle certain intellectual-property disputes) and backed by SoundExchange, the theoretically nonpartisan group charged with collecting these royalties, would impose a per-song, per-listener fee that many Webcasters say would put them out of business.

Tip of the hat to overlawyered.

I love Pandora. I love finding new music, and Pandora was a great legal way to do it. The sad thing is theres another issue at hand.

http://www.alleyinsider.com/2008/8/muxtape-shut-down-by-riaa

This really is going too far. Not because of the royalties, but because it is a complete bias toward the distribution method. This can be a huge cash cow for the industry, but its working only to burn the bridge to the future. The internet will become the choice for music distribution, if it hasn't already. They need to stop litigating and start evolving. Simple as that. No more favoritism. Times have changed, and no amount of lawsuits can change that.

I love Internet radio! Unfortunately, it may soon be the end of it unless laws change ASAP. In March 2007, new rates were forced on webcasters to pay for each song streamed to each user, and will steadily increase over the next few years. It is unfortunate that Pandora may be the first Internet radio service that may be forced to go offline unless things change. In an article from the Washington Post, Pandora claims that 70 percent of its $25 million projected revenue will go towards paying for royalties. Furthermore, the Post also reported that:

Using listener figures from Arbitron for XM Satellite Radio, it is possible to estimate that the company will pay about 1.6 cents per hour per listener when the new rates are fully adapted in 2010. By contrast, Web radio outlets will pay 2.91 cents per hour per listener.

The result is that web radio services would be forced to pay twice as much than their satellite radio counterpart.

For the already ailing music industry, the closure of such a popular radio service will certainly not help the industry recover. In fact, it would most likely be a major step backwards. Pandora is music service that allows each user to customize their own collection of radio stations by suggesting a favorite band or song. Pandora will automatically generate similar artists and songs based on the entry. One of the greatest values of Pandora is learning about new music. I have learned about several new artists by using Pandora. Two artists that come mind include Kamelot and Nightwish. Prior to using this service, I had never heard of either of these groups, but after learning about them I went out and purchased music. Clearly, what Internet radio services provide is an alternative form of publicity that is not normally available through traditional AM/FM radio. Online internet radio is strained by the same limitation that AM/FM radio usually has to abide by (aka stupid executives that wish to control the air waves).

The potential closure of Pandora is a direct result of what happens when bureaucrats become involved with regulating a category of business they do not fully comprehend. I hope our wonderful government leaders will recognize their error very soon. It is unclear what will happen, but you can bank would be an awful and disheartening outcome for Pandora to shut services off. WIRED's Listening Post reports that rate issues are still being resolved. I just hope that they are resolved sooner than later.

My favorite online radio station…one of the greatest ever…is in danger of shutting down.

My favorite online radio station...one of the greatest ever...is in danger of shutting down. Why? Well new royalties have been passed that try to collect more money for artists and labels. See, the labels aren't selling as many CD's so they have to try to come up with money somewhere....so why not charge more for online plays?

I am an artist and have my own label, so I completely agree with artists and labels getting paid. It is only right...but the royalty rates are starting to get so high that many online stations can no longer afford to pay them. That means good, legit online stations that try to do the right thing will die, and pirates will again be rampant, and the big labels won't really be able to stop them, so they will find ways to penalize legit music fans. There must be a compromise.

Read an article here that explains it better than I ever could.

Although the strong title to a post, it refers to an awesome situation the web is living: the grown of 3D environmental applications, but I'm not referring to games and entertainment applications, I'm referring to social networks, picture galleries, engines to navigate in the internet, and other.

Looking around in some 2.0 blogs, I've found an application called SmallWords, which contains lots of fun and interactive options, further more it's a wonderful social network.

Do you like games? There you have. Do you like social networks like Orkut? There you have. Do you like pictures? Access your Flickr page from there. Everything in i rich graphics 3D environment. Start creating one avatar, choose almost everything, face, clothes, and others. Then, you may find users to interact (or find people you already know), go around and enter pubs, spas, clubs, resorts and God knows what more. Talk to everyone you find using comic-like balloons, add them to your friend list, enter their house and enjoy your stay with the interactive moves like dance steps and emoticons.

Another interesting thing is the possibility to listen and search for music (do you know podcast?) and watch videos from YouTube on the video player.

So, after all these things I've found, I'm sure the next step of the web will be the transition to the 3D environment, what do you think? Sci-fi? Maybe... Who knows?

Můžete si vybrat, zda chcete poslouchat jazz, rock, hip hop..atd.

P.S. Doporučuji tento Pohodový playlist

Those of us who are a part of BlogTalkRadio know we have a good thing here. The good news is, the rest of the world is finding out about us too.

Recently, we've had mentions in some very worthy publications, including The New York Times. Today, we add BusinessWeek.com to the list!

The article discusses how BTR got its start, our new funding, and how many leading companies are licensing branded stations.

I've seen many interviews and articles with CEO and Founder Alan Levy in the two months I've worked for BlogTalkRadio, and one thing is always clear: His passion and joy in his radio community shines through -and it's that passion that will take us far.

The BW article offers an opportunity for readers to comment. I hope you'll stop by and tell them what BlogTalkRadio means to you!

My third year as the Nightfly consists of only one show on Jubilee FM. It's an online only broadcast and you can find the link here. Not only that you can tune in and listen live.

However very soon (September I think) the station goes fully live on FM and online and I hope I'll have a regular slot.

If you want to hear my mix of music old and new and certainly not from any regular playlist tune in on Thursday the 7th at 8pm (UK time).
