 After breaking out last year with a handful of large-scale festival performances from the reunited Rage Against the Machine, this summer's Rock the Bells tour will feature appearances by A Tribe Called Quest, Nas, Mos Def, De La Soul, Rakim and the reunited Pharcyde, among others. The traveling hip-hop festival will visit amphitheaters in 10 major North American cities, beginning July 19 in Chicago, and wrapping Aug. 30 in Vancouver. This year marks the first time Rock the Bells will visit Toronto (July 20), Vancouver and Philadelphia (Aug. 3). The National Black Arts Festival (NBAF) has evolved from a biannual arts festival, begun in 1987, to a year-round institution with an educational and humanities focus. Its mission is “to develop, expose and educate audiences to the arts and culture of the African Diaspora and provide diverse opportunities for artistic and creative expression.” Underlying that mission is NBAF’s goal to bring diverse communities together through art and culture. The highlight of its programs is the annual summer arts festival held in July. Celebrating the Legacy, Global Connections and the Future Together Featuring music, theater, film, dance, visual arts and literature, the 10-day National Black Arts Festival, held July 18-27, is a dynamic celebration of the creativity of people of African descent around the world. Decided to stay home on Thursday night and watched Surfs Up on our basement movie theatre .. awesome I love cartoons, and this one was clever and funny!

Friday, I was SO glad to finish work, its been very crazy and too much of that wears me down!

I went to an event called High Voltage, for the first half of the night, which was nice and relaxing and good to catch up with friends! Flick Dj’d a really awesome set - Flick - Curtain Raiser Check his mix out!

After that I was up to work at Fluffy.. Then home for an early 2am finish Haha

Saturday 8pm Yellow Brick Road - As its an all ages dance party it starts and finishes early! There was defianately allot more over 18 (legal drinking age in NZ) year olds here but still I did feel a wee bit old haha! Lighting was AMAZING!

I forgot to take the Video camera out with me the whole weekend *sigh* I’m still waiting for photos from all the weekend’s gigs to be put up - Its tuesday already and still nothing up. I lookd like I’d walked right out of an Anime cartoon!

Преди време Funkusion ми предостави интервюто си с Diesler (Джонатан Радфорд), което поместих в блога без редакционна намеса, след публикуването му в "Една седмица в София". Интервюираната личност може би помниш. А може би не. Ако е последното сетният ти шанс идва с Majah, която раболепно е разсеяла и пръските съмнение за изпуснати дири около аферата Радфорд.  

Моето удоволствие в случая се свежда до направата на позивната (винаги съм се чудил коя българска дума съответства на flyer) и присъствието ми на уреченото място. Второто особено! 

И предпразнично ще си позволя да цитирам призива на Tru Thoughts, апелиращ ни да не крадем музика ("don't steal music" изписано върху всеки диск през 2008 г.). Всички издатели са запознати с начините за размяна на файлове в интернет и се досещат, че не могат да предотвратят или прекратят съществуващата практика. А не е редно и не би било добре да се съсредоточават върху фабрикуването на превенции, загърбвайки основната си дейност, свързана с търсене и подпомагане на нови артисти.

Пределно ясно е, че Diesler също попада сред тези открития и кой знае утре ти би могъл да бъдеш на негово място. Но ако греша по отношение на теб, то отдавна е известно, че артистите от този калибър (антипод на Мадона и Бритни Спиърс) не биха могли да се изхранват само от продажби на звуконосители. Затова и повечето продуценти, ди-джей или изпълнители често са извън родината си, задоволявайки чуждестранна аудитория, а оттам и естествените си нужди. Не ни трябва да разсъждаваме върху чергарския похват на изхранване, а да потърсим баланса между присвоено и легално придобито. Не да спрем да теглим мп3 (които междувпрочем са едно прекрасно демо), а да започнем да купуваме!

Това е, стимулирайте артистите, за да продължават да ви ухажват, толкова е просто!

The OurHouse Nite Life awards were on Thursday and I was very cynical about my entry for "Best Scene Personality" as I expected I came Runner Up to Party Marty (who most people I talked to that night had never heard of) !

On Friday and Saturday I worked at Fluffy at Bar 309 for Easter weekend. It was a Bunnylicious event. All the DJ Station Dancers were there and Bunnys everywhere!

I Glam’d it up the next night with more fake fur than a plush bunny company and my Maddona Dress and Maryln Monroe / Shirly Temple curls! Glitter, eyelashes and lashings of PINK, what could be more FABULIOUS?!

hehe...

I’m surprised I managed to keep the energy up. It wasn’t hard to keep a good mood, the weather was fantastic, hot and a little breezy... We had a friend staying over the weekend so decided to show her a few sights of New Zealand.

Beach weather? Where better to go than PIHA. West coast surf beach with rich black sand! The tide was coming in so after a long walk and a clamber over rocks we rushed back to the beach so not to get stranded on the point!

I’m sure lack of sleep, sunshine and beached make people go crazy! Maybe its just me! Haha

BULGARIAN SOUNDS OF NOW

Целта на това събитие е да представи нови музикални проекти и артисти от България пред публика.
Четири проекта: 1000names, Auditory Ossicles, Soulslept и Pumpkin Temp ще представят най-новите си парчета. Двамата диджеи Jamez Bongg и KЕi ще допринесат за разнообразният звук на вечерта. Всичко това ще ви накара да се раздвижите и да вкусите от различното.

За групите:

1000names

Casio Blaster и 99mistakes по известни като паник дуото 1000names са диджеи и продуценти от София. Те семплират, смесват и рециклират заедно от 2003-та година насам, създавайки собствен стил определян като “Eklektro hip hop”. Вдъхновяват се от стари sci-fi и cartoon филми, както и от космическата програма на NASA. Парчетата им се въртят по световни радиа като Samurai FM, dublab, BTS Radio, AstroBlack, Basic Soul, Bogaloo radio, Nova, Monday Jazz, True Radio MHz, Nuff Stylee Radio,We are, Monotape radio show, Vibes and Stuff и др. Te самите правят сетове за някои от тези радиа превъртайки полигамни смесици от old skool, funk, hip-hop,soul, elektro до psycadelic, emotronic, experimental... листата може да продължи много дълго и да свърши неочаквано!!!
Тази година излизат пет компилации с тяхно участие а през 2008-ма очаквайте самостоятелно ЕP и LP за френският лейбъл Eklektik records.

Auditory Ossicles

Групата Auditory Ossicles е комбинация от двама електронни продуценти/тонрежисьори (Андрей Андреев, Богдан Шишеджиев) и двама професионални джаз музиканти (Йордан Дончев, Иван Андреев). Стилово търсят баланса между електронната ембиънт музика и джаза, съчетавайки програминг с живи бас, барабани, пиано и саксофон. Не се страхуват да експериментират с идеите си, превръщайки ги смело в дълги, развиващи се в много части композиции, като често редуват електронното с живо, дишащо джазово свирене. Наблягат и на неравноделни ритми, както и продължителни звукови пейзажи, които им придават " филмово " настроение. Определят стила си като "Space Jazz".
Групата е почти готова с първия си албум и ще представи част от него на 17.11.07 на сцената на Бекстейдж,София.

Soulslept

Името Soulslept за първи път се споменава в интернет средите около Март-Април 2006-а година. Зад това име всъщност стои човек на име Мартин Ставрев, родом от Видин, живущ в момента в София (и също толкова във Велико Търново).
Стилът му варира между трип-хоп, брейкбийт и IDM с интегрирано акустично/оркестрално звучене.

Pumpkin Temp

Тиквениците са хора . Броят им е неясен, поради причината, че не се знае. Дали са 5 или можеби трима.Гаджета си имат само трима. Едното е двойка, пък другото не. Другите двама си нямат. Те са млади и перспективни. Не са DJ-и, ами творци. Творчеството им е изпълнено с момичешки небрежно зрял вокал, приятно експериментални инструментали (цигулки донасита), и хубаво раздвижен бийтбокс.
