Este post lo quería hacer desde hace mucho, pero ahorita me encontré con este otro post en Paiki y me recordó algunas cosas que quería decir antes.

Lamento mucho que en los cines(al menos en la Ciudad de México) se le esté dando preferencia a películas dobladas en español que a las que vienen en su lengua original con subtitulos. Este verano que ha sido sensacional con muy buenas películas pero que desgraciadamente he tenido algunas broncas en llegar a una función que esté en ingles, desde Iron-man, Hulk, Batman, Hellboy 2, etc... y es que, se supone que se doblan por que es para niños, pero al menos Batman no es para niños, como tampoco lo era la del Superagente 86. Y que decir de la cultura de la hueva en México. Ya ni los subtitulos queremos leer... ya ni se diga aprender otro idioma.

Y todo esto no quiere decir que esté en contra del doblaje mexicano, al contrario, pero una cosa es ir al cine a ver Batman en ingles y otra verla en el cinco en español. Las películas animadas por lo general estan bien dobladas y no importa tanto, por que además son para niños. Los mismo con las series animadas, que a veces se oyen mejor que en ingles. Y han sido años de esta profesión llevada on gran profesionalismo que muchos de nosotros nos hemos encariñado con ciertas voces que hemos escuchado en caricaturas y en series animadas y no animadas.

Por eso, voy a los siguiente... los homenajes a los grandes actores de doblaje en México. Y esto era precisamente lo que queria postear desde hace mucho tiempo... conocer a los actores que han prestado sus voces para muchos personajes entrañables y que a pesar de estar familiarizados con esas voces pocas veces vemos sus caras en la televisión. Barra Del Torro is a town far from the influence of America and the global world. To get there, one has to drive through some of Mexico's most out of the way rural farming communities.  These places are less than a day from the U.S. and still use oxen to plow the fields, grass for roof tops and horses for transportation.

On your way to Barra Del Torro you will see little boys herding cattle along side of the road with sticks. Roberto, the young man trying to act cool on my motorcycle, is one of these boys, although he also helps his family tend to visitors, assuming they have visitors.

When i met Roberto he was almost 12 years old and was near the completion of his formal school years. His father was concerned about the direction of his future and wanted his son to learn a trade. The 3 peso bathroom charge and 8 peso shower charge wasn't making the family enough money but a trade, his father knew, would give him a skill that he could perfect.

Roberto and I became friends very quickly. Whenever I needed anything I would call for Roberto and he would come running, as cheerful as ever, and help me out or give me the information that i needed. The way I understood it, as a gringo, the more help he was the more i would tip him and help the whole family out. That was "fair and righteous" in my opinion.

Unfortunately, that is not how his family and culture worked.

His father had a discussion with me that nearly broke my heart. He told me that we, my friend and I, do not need to tip. Tipping is almost disrespectful and he felt insulted by my throwing around money. His family wanted to enjoy our company as friends, even though we had only known each other for 1 day, and stopped charging us for everything.

We ate dinner together that night and had the best seafood soup that I ever had. They didn't charge us even though it was suppose to be a restaurant they were running and they didn't have any other customers. I want to explain to them my side of the story but i didn't.

But to you, I will explain.

In the U.S. i am considered lower class working poor and i am from a family of lower class working poor. I had $800 for my summer vacation in Mexico and planned on coming home broke. I can spend $20 on beer in one night and not think anything about it. But when i realize that $20 could feed and shelter a family for a week, in my opinion, there was no other choice. It felt right to give to those more in need. But sometimes what feels right isn't always the right thing to do.

I gave Roberto my camera and asked him to take a few pictures for me and this is what he came back with.

Most recently I have decided to study Latin.  The cool thing about being an ameture enthusiest (truely so, for I am only entering the beginnings of enthusiasm,  I can't even get through the first quarter of a textbook on my own) is that you start to develop a wide pool of resources that you can draw upon to aid your learning. Recently I have stumbled upon an interisting podcast called LATINUM.  This podcast uses free to download resources to teach a comprehensive course in the language spoken by the Romans.  To me this is appealing, I get to hear the language spoken and I might have some motivation to stick to it.

Now, If I only owned an iPod so I could listen on my way to work...

ich muss mal wieder sagen ich bin sprachlos (im übertragenen sinne)! dies ist der dritte teil einer choreografie die die afrolatin group tanzt, die tänzerin hier ist doricel martinez. die geschmeidigkeit und der flow der bewegungen sind echt mal beeindruckend. ausserdem find ich spannend wie sie die pasos und movimientos kommentiert. war schon aufschlussreich für mich, welche bewegung sie changó, elegua oder den anderen santos zuordnet.

hier seht ihr doricel bei einer performance zu palo musik (palo monte ist neben der bekannteren santeria eine weitere afrokubanische religion, der ein nymbus von dunklen riten anhängt/magia negra brujeria).

spannend fand ich hier das mich viele ihrer bewegungen an die performances von meinem großen helden frankie martinez erinnern. der gute soll ja auch einige zeit auf kuba verbracht haben und dort baile aforcubano/afrocaribeno studiert haben.

naja, nicht zuletzt der name seiner company (abakua dancers) verweist darauf. die abakua waren eine afrokubanische geheimgesellschaft, die um die jahrhundertwende 19./20. jhdt. entstanden ist, und in der der männlicheitskult ziemlich im mittelpunkt stand. es gab einige rituale, von denen einige ziemlich blutig für unsere verhältnisse (und die der kubanischen behörden der damaligen zeit) gewesen sein sollen. abgesehen davon, haben sie eigene rhythmen, musik und tänze gehabt, die heute fester bestandteil der afrokubanischen folklore sind. ein sehr bekannter abakua war übrigens beny moré.
