one of my earlier shots, taken last year from my then new camera. i don't know the name of this little pink flower but it looks like a cross between a carnation and a rose, albeit with thinner petals. it's very common in the gardens and i see it all year round. despite its simplicity, i was pleasantly surprised to see how its photo turned out -- it reminded me of one of those old fashioned hallmark cards.

also known as pink periwinkle, these flowers are ubiquitous in the philippines. they grow all year round. my sister said that as a child, i'd pluck the petals and stick them on my fingernails, like new polish. can't remember a thing!

at least that's how i see them. caught the last of these thin-petalled flowers hanging delicately in our garden. my brother got them from nueva ecija, a province in northern philippines. i was told these orchids bloom just once, sometimes twice, a year.
