Sanyo no da por perdido al formato Blu-Ray y ha anunciado una interesante mejora en los discos que será posible con ayuda de su nuevo láser azul. Ese nuevo elemento colocado en un grabador nos proporcionaría un aumento de capacidad en los discos y una mayor velocidad de grabación.

Efectivamente, con el nuevo láser azul de Sanyo es posible escribir hasta dos capas más en cada disco Blu-Ray, lo que elevaría la capacidad de cada uno de ellos hasta los 100 GB. La velocidad de grabación podría aumentarse también hasta los 12x, lo que sería una gran noticia, pues cualquier aumento de velocidad en este aspecto, se nota con la gran capacidad de los discos Blu-Ray.

La mala noticia, porque la hay, es que este desarrollo no se podrá ver aplicado a discos y grabadores hasta al menos dentro de un año. Donde nos encontremos entonces en el ámbito de nuevos formatos es un misterio.

El que me conoce bien, sabe que colecciono DVDs desde que, hace unos 6 años, dejé de fumar. Como "compensación" al mono del tabaco, pillaba un par de películas al mes y eso me ayudó a no recaer en el vicio, eso y que al final de esa etapa tenía un consumo diario de paquete y medio al día aproximadamente, con lo que podéis imaginaros cómo lo notó mi bolsillo.

Pues bien, después de 282 pelis adquiridas me encuentro con que, cada vez más películas salen en Alta definición, además de la aplicación del sistema BD-Live (IRON MAN es la primera que lo lleva...), y creo que ha llegado el momento de dar el paso "lógico" al Blu-ray. Y lo malo es que, según dicen, el futuro son las descargas de alta definición, que el formato físico morirá, pero me da a mi que no va a ir conmigo, al menos no para coleccionar, no vamos a comparar...

Estos que os pongo son los que me pienso pillar en las próximas rebajas, sé que falta, pero soy paciente, que ya era hora de que sacaran algo que valiera la pena, y no reeditaran lo que ya tengo...

Y vosotros, cuando dais el paso, frikys del mundo?

 

I'm a fan of Blu-ray. Forrester actually called the Blu-ray vs. HD-DVD battle as early as 2005 (I can't take credit for it, my colleagues Josh Bernoff and Ted Schadler were on the task back then).

But I'm also acutely aware of what a tough job Blu-ray has ahead of it. Not competing with digital, not even competing with VOD, but just competing with DVD (see my report from earlier in the year for more detail). DVD rocks. It's easy to use. It's ubiquitous. It's cheap (follow this link to Walmart.com to see that at the time of this post, there were 14 DVD players under $50).

So when I saw this Sony promotion of the format I admired their gumption. The promotion itself actually focuses on Coma, an original Web series with some big budget names on Crackle.com. (By the way, this triggered me to see how Crackle has been faring lately, the answer: surprisingly well. Check out this link to see that according to Compete.com, Crackle is now at the same level as Metacafe and Dailymotion in the US.)

Back to the promotion: Make sure you read the fine print on the back of the ad which says "Blu-ray Disc Media/Formats are not universally compatible." This is the embarrasing part because when I took my sparkling new Blu-ray disc to my Sony Blu-ray player, I got this message (which you probably can't see because of the lighting, but it says: "Cannot Play").

Ouch. More evidence that the format needs some time to work the kinks out.

In short; Iron Man on Blu-ray was fantastic. Rock Band 2 continues to be an obsession, with the full-album download of Red Hot Chili Peppers' Blood Sugar Sex Magic taking up much of my gaming time. In addition, I just got into the Little Big Planet beta; as one of the most unique and exciting games of the current generation, I'm looking forward to sharing my impressions.

After being barely available on DVD (the murky Image release has been out of print for years) Antonioni’s Red Desert is coming out in the UK on October 20th not only in a brand new restoration, but on Blu-ray no less. One of my all-time favorite films, Red Desert is, for me, more like a place to visit than a narrative to follow. Like Playtime or Stalker it is a film of clearly defined spaces that you feel compelled to return to: the factory with its belching chimneys, the tiny red shack by the water’s edge, Monica Vitti’s modern condo, the idyllic beach in the bedtime story. I once told someone that if I had Warren Buffet’s bank account I would build a Red Desert theme park and that it would be the world's greatest cinephile folly. For now I’ll make do with trying to figure out how to afford a region-free Blu-ray player.

Alright first we'll start with The Forbidden Kingdom, because it's probably the most fun to watch. If you've heard anything about this film, it's that Jackie Chan and Jet Li are the two big stars of it. It's a romantic comedy where both Jackie and Jet search to find true love..... Seriously!! this is a kung fu movie, and it's freakin sweet. You will no longer have to argue with friends about who would win in a fight, because it's obviously Jackie Chan.. or is it? you'll have to watch to find out. The movie has a pretty fantastical story, it's interesting, fun, dramatic, full of action, it's really everything you could want in a movie, plus you have JACKIE AND JET!!, what more does a person need.

I really liked The Forbidden Kingdom, It's definitely a movie I could watch over and over. So if your looking for a fun film with a fun story and a lot of action, then this is definitely something I recommend checking out.

Alright next we have Forgetting Sarah Marshall,this is a movie from the guys that brought you classics like "The 40 Year Old Virgin", and "Knocked Up", so right away you know this movie is going to be interesting. When I first heard about Forgetting Sarah Marshall I was skeptical, because not all of the Judd Apatow films are good, there are always a few crappy ones in the bunch. Luckily this movie proved to be one of the best. The film is about a guy named Peter who is trying to get over his girlfriend who dumped him, only to find that she's in Hawaii staying at the same hotel as him. Talk about crazy, can't you just imagine all the shenanigans that are bound to go on throughout the film, if you can't, then check out this trailer to find out.

So if your not completely turned off by that trailer, then your one of many who should definitely see this film. It's very very funny and worth checking out, so go watch it right now, oh and did I mention Mila Kunis is freakin hot.

Last but certainly not least is Iron Man, which is probably one of the best movies to come out this year. If you haven't heard of Iron Man, then where the hell have you been? It's completely awesome, I could really recommend this to anybody, Robert Downey Jr. pulls off the role of Tony Stark so well, it's hard not to like every bit of it. Iron Man is full of everything all superhero movies are full of, a lot of action, a lot of comedy and some epic moments to top it off. The way they pulled off the CGI is pretty amazing, everything looks very realistic, pulling you even further into the world of Iron Man. If you still can't believe this movie is totally awesome, then check out this trailer.

Didn't I tell you it was awesome!. As far as the Marvel movies go, Iron man is one of the best, so if you see any movie this month, make sure it's this one.

Anyways, I'm sick of talking about these movies, go watch them yourselves and enjoy.

So sieht er aus. Ein Mitarbeiter von mir hat mir eine besondere Freude gemacht. In seinem Urlaub hat er meinen Traumwagen entdeckt, fotografiert und das Foto via iPhone an mich geschickt. Ausdrücklichen Dank an Michael. Es handelt sich um einen schwarzen Ford Mustang. Ja, ja, jetzt geht es wieder los: Energiebilanz, Kraftstoffverbrauch, Emissionswerte, kein Platz für Kinder, ja, ja. Aber trotzdem: Ich finde der Mustang ist ein geiles Stück Blech. Ok, der Aston Martin DB 9 ist noch besser, aber leider habe ich da ein eklatantes Finanzierungsloch. Weil Schwärmen ja so schön ist, habe ich mir am Abend gleich den Steve McQueen Film „Bullit“ auf Blu ray reingezogen. Frau und Kinder waren nicht da, also Anlage voll aufgedreht und der Mustang röhrte durchs Haus. In den guten Siebzigern gedreht ist „Bullit“ ein starker Bullenfilm mit einem obercoolen Steve McQueen. Es gibt wohl neben Bogart und Brando keinen cooleren Schauspieler. Schaut euch die blauen Augen an und ihr wisst, was Schauspielerei mit den Augen ist. „Bullit“ steht für mich in einer Reihe mit den harten Dirty Harry-Polizeifilmen mit Clint Eastwood. Neulich habe ich gelesen, dass Eastwood den dreckigen Harry wieder aufleben lassen will. Dieses Mal soll Harry aber ins Gras beißen, getreu seinem Motto „Make my day“. Ich hoffe, es wird ein würdiger Abgang, ähnlich wie John Wayne in der „letzte Scharfschütze“, einem genialen Spätwestern mit einem tot kranken John Wayne. Aber zurück zu „Bullit“: Der Film spielt in San Francisco und durch zahlreiche Macword Expo durfte ich in der Stadt weilen. In dem Film fährt McQueen einen grünen Mustang und vollführt mit ihm eine halsbrecherische Verfolgungsjagd durch die Stadt. Sicher eine der besten Verfolgungsfahrten der Filmgeschichte. Ich bin zwar nicht Steve McQueen und so cool bin ich auch nicht, aber irgendwann kaufe ich mir meinen Mustang.

Roma - A seguito del meritato exploit nelle sale, la pellicola incentrata sulla vicenda del supereroe corazzato Iron Man ha sbancato anche in home video. Il film ha venduto tanto, troppo, oltre le aspettative almeno per quanto riguarda la versione in Blu-ray, al punto da far collassare i server approntati da Paramount Pictures per gestire le funzionalità BD-Live della release.

BD-Live rappresenta l'ultima specifica attualmente codificata del formato hi-def di Sony, e permette di sfruttare la connessione di rete per il download di contenuti aggiuntivi non presenti originariamente sul disco in commercio. Nel caso di Iron Man le richieste di download hanno superato le capacità infrastrutturali del servizio, impedendo il suo corretto sfruttamento e, quel che è peggio, provocando un ritardo tale da far credere agli acquirenti che il supporto fosse difettato.

Il download parte non appena si inserisce il disco nel lettore e solo gli utenti di PlayStation 3 sono in condizione di gestire il download in modo autonomo. Il problema è stato tale da obbligare Paramount a rilasciare un comunicato sull'argomento, rassicurando sul pronto incremento di server a disposizione degli utenti e sul fatto che il disco fosse "un'offerta Blu-ray davvero allo stato dell'arte con un'applicazione BD-Live inedita nel suo genere".

Un'applicazione che forse è sin troppo inedita, al punto da sollevare per l'ennesima volta interrogativi sulle caratteristiche del formato Blu-ray, che ancora fa discutere esperti, commentatori e gli stessi esponenti dell'industria tecnologica anche dopo la conquista del mercato dell'alta definizione seguita alla sconfitta del rivale HD DVD, supportato da Toshiba e dal DVD Forum.

In casi del genere è sin troppo semplice paragonare la praticità dei download digitali su P2P alle spigolosità crescenti dei prodotti offerti dall'industria: tra DRM invalidanti e applicazioni "allo stato dell'arte" capaci di farti attendere davanti allo schermo muto per un'ora prima di poterti godere il film appena acquistato, scaricare la pellicola da BitTorrent ancorché illecita è certamente l'opzione più frequentata dagli utenti di personal computer mediamente informati sui fatti della vita, l'universo e tutto quanto.

Interactive TV software company, Osmosys (note: the company, which is part of the ADB Group, specializes in Java-based ITV solutions, such as MHP and OCAP), has generated a fair amount of news over the past few weeks:

• The company says that Norwegian digital terrestrial television (DTT) operator, RiksTV, has selected its push-VOD solution. RiksTV, which is owned by a consortium comprised of NRK, the TV2 Group and Telenor, launched a linear-TV service in September, 2007, and claims to have since attracted nearly 250,000 customers. At launch, its new VOD service offers a line-up of SD programming, but is slated to offer HD content in the near future. Osmosys bills its push-VOD platform as offering a bandwidth-independent means of distributing any kind of digital content; as being able to work with any conditional access system; as being middleware-agnostic; and as being available for satellite, cable, and IPTV as well as terrestrial deployments. The company also says that it allows content to be made available to viewers in the form of customized catalogs, via different payment methods, including pay-per-view and subscription. In addition, the push-VOD solution is integrated with Osmosys' EGG product: the latter is billed by the company as a graphics library that allows video content creators and designers to provide interactive TV graphics with fluid motion, 3D effects and a suite of animation effects on platforms that were previously restricted to 2D graphics. In addition to its client application, Osmosys' push-VOD system includes a system server that stores and plays video content and is controlled by the company's Push VOD Manager solution. According to Osmosys, the latter allows operators to manage program descriptions, control bitrates, schedule events, control disk space usage, monitor file transfer status and monitor DVR status.
• The company has launched a Quick Porting Kit (QPK) to facilitate deployment of its interactive TV middleware and applications on hardware manufacturers' designs. According to the company, the QPK consists of the source code for a complete, optimized port by Osmosys to the standard hardware reference designs available from semiconductor manufacturers. This, the company says, means that hardware manufacturers only need to modify the drivers for any hardware changes from the reference design, and no longer need to implement a complete port. "Middleware porting is a perceived burden for many of our customers," Osmosys CTO, Paul Bristow, said in a prepared statement. "They have asked us to make it easier, and we are therefore giving them exactly want they want. The demands on today's digital products are getting higher and higher. We see the demand to add more functionality into our software, but we can't afford to make that harder and harder to implement on a set-top box. As we use the same porting layer for any flavor of our middleware, the Osmosys QPK is applicable to our tru2way, BD-J, GEM-IPTV and MHP products. In addition, it means Osmosys can now service more customers simultaneously, effectively freeing manufacturers' timelines from development constraints." Osmosys says that the QPK is available immediately for manufacturers using ST Microelectronics' ST 7100, 7101 and 7109 chipsets and will shortly be available for the new 7105. It also currently supports the Broadcom BCM7400 and BCM7401 family of chipsets, and is slated to support the BCM7405 family in the future. The company says that support for other chipsets will be added according to demand.
• The company and its partner, Hitachi Software Engineering (HitachiSoft), have announced the first commercial deployment of their integrated interactive Blu-ray software platform. The solution has been embedded onto chipsets from Renesas and will be used in a new product for the US market, the companies say. The Osmosys-HitachiSoft platform is billed by the companies as combining proven core middleware with CE-embedded software to enable a high- performance and quality interactive Blu-ray HD experience, when coupled with Renesas' Blu-ray chipsets: Renesas' system-on-a-chip creates a complete reference design for Blu-ray players and is available for any CE vendor. "Osmosys has developed a superior BD-J middleware engine, and by adopting the HitachiSoft embedded software product, CE manufacturers can dramatically reduce the development cost for interactive Blu-ray applications," Fujisaki Kazuhiro, group executive at HitachiSoft, said in a prepared statement. "At an early stage, Osmosys realized the potential for innovative interactive applications that Blu-ray could provide. Having championed the format from the beginning, the company has used its experience and expertise to develop a robust and reliable BD-J engine on which to integrate our software. We are delighted with this deployment and look forward to continuing our strong relationship with Osmosys in the future." Key features of Osmosys' BD-J engine, according to the company, include: platform independence (the engine uses the Osmosys Platform Independent Layer, which the company claims isolates the high-level software from the lower-level drivers, allowing porting to multiple hardware solutions); robust implementation (the engine is built from existing GEM source code which Osmosys says has been tried and tested in the ITV market since 2002); and support for "next-generation" products (the company says that the same porting layer can be used to build products providing any combination of Blu-ray, MHP, OCAP, DVR, multiroom DVR, IPTV and home networking capabilities).
• The company says that TV manufacturer, Vestel, has selected its MHP middleware and its Navigator software to power its integrated digital television sets. The deal marks Osmosys' first full integration into iDTV sets. Vestel plans to launch Osmosys-powered devices in the Italian DTT market and plans to expand into other European countries in the future. The company, which is the largest TV manufacturer in Europe (it accounts for around 25% of that market), offers products under its own brands and under the brands of such companies as JVC, Hitachi, Sharp, Sanyo, and Toshiba. "We are very pleased to be deploying Osmosys' Java-based middleware and Navigator application on our iDTV's so that they can be truly interactive, further improving the quality and experience for our customers," Vestel's deputy managing director, Ugur Savas, said in a prepared statement. "We selected Osmosys due to the high levels of performance and reliability that its solutions demonstrate, as well as the attraction of being able to draw upon its many years of expertise and leadership in the digital television software space." Osmosys bills its MHP middleware as providing a complete, open broadcast software solution for digital receivers and as offering a host of enhanced features to enable ITV services. The Osmosys Navigator operates with the middleware to provide an interface for digital receivers: according to the company, it can be easily customized for specific needs "without changing a line of code," and can also be customized to match existing products in a given product range.

Quais as diferenças entre HD-DVD e Blu-Ray Disc?

São duas tecnologias distintas que disputam a sucessão dos DVDs e diferem tecnicamente e em capacidade de armazenamento.

Um disco de 1 camada do padrão Blu-Ray consegue armazenar cerca de 25GB de informação (6 horas) e o disco HD-DVD permite armazenar 15GB (4 horas).

Uma vantagem do disco HD-DVD é o custo de produção menor em relação ao disco Blu- Ray.

When Disney releases an animated classic, people purchase it. Sleeping Beauty's release on Blu-Ray marks the beginning of what will be several, hopefully every, Disney animated classic getting the Blu-Treatment. If you have children, nieces, nephews, cousins, or just some child that is around and you want them to understand what you mean when you say times have changed, buy them this movie. It is a BD-Live title and anyone that does not Sleeping Beauty has to be insane.

I  will now talk about all of the movies that do not make me feel like I am 4. Don't Mess with the Zohan was a surprisingly funny movie. I'm trying to figure out whether it was who I saw the movie with or the movie itself that made me enjoy it so much. I will be seeing again and I will let you know. Interview with the Vampire needs no explanation. The 7th Voyage of Sinbad is a movie that every dad should watch with their son. There is something about those old action flicks that makes for a great boding experience. There are also some horror movies for those of you that love them. I think they are only ok. ;)

Procesor: Intel Core 2 Duo T7500, 2200Mhz, un Front Side Bus de 800 Mhz şi un cache de 4 MB. Chiar dacă nu e chiar ultima generaţie de la Intel, acest dual-core e rapid, frate. Dacă ar fi să-i găsesc un corespondent nici nu ar trebui să caut prea mult. Cred că acest procesor e într-adevăr un Lamborghini Gallardo (Viteza maximă : 309 Km/h, acceleraţie 0-100Km-h în 4.1 secunde). Nu e cel mai rapid model, aici sunt de acord, însă comparându-l cu concurenţa sa, AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-60 sau TL-62 e ca şi cum ai compara acest Gallardo cu un Mustang. Binenteles şi Mustang-ul e o maşină performantă, puternică, rapidă, însă la un head-to-head ar rămâne mult în urma Lamborghini-ului. În plus, un Mustang consumă mai mult.

Display şi Video: Ecranul e un TFT WSXGA+ (rezoluţie de 1680×1050 cu un aspect ratio de 16 : 10 ), Color Shine (aşa le place băieţilor de la ASUS să numească display-urile glossy). Şi cum ASUS sunt recunoscuţi pentru calitatea display-urilor, nici acesta nu face notă discordantă. Nu e pentru profesioniştii în ale graficii (pentru care display-urile mate sunt perfecte), însă pentru muritorii de rând e excelent. Placa grafică este un GeForce 8600M cu 512 MB de memorie dedicată şi încă 1 GB prin TurboCache (adică placa video poate să „împrumute” ceva memorie din RAM). Nu e chiar cea mai bună placă video de pe piată (Nvidia a scos seria 9 în februarie anul curent, urmată apoi în iunie de seria 200, unde GTX 280 e regele), dar cu siguranţă orice joc de anul acesta va rula lin cu ajutorul acestei plăci. Aş fi vrut să compar experienţa vizuală a acestui laptop cu frumuseţea Jessica-i. Însă acest notebook nu a atins perfecţiunea, de aceea cred că se potriveşte mai degrabă imaginii Evei. Dar până la urmă e o chestie de gusturi.

Hdd & RAM : Memoria RAM e de 2 GB, extensibilă la 4. E un DDR2 la 667 Mhz (oare rotunjirea e din superstiţie?). Nici aici nu a fost atinsă perfecţiunea, DDR3 fiind succesorul care se impune rapid prin viteza sa superioară (Se ajunge şi la 1800Mhz, adică de aproape 3 ori viteza memorie notebook-ului la care se face referire aici). Însă cei 4 giga de memorie la care se poate ajunge sunt arhisuficienţi pentru cerinţele de acum şi mult timp în viitor. Oricât de lacom ar fi Vista şi alte aplicaţii, cantitatea e realmente impresionantă. Hard Disk-ul e de 200GB. Nu e mult, dar nici puţin. E destul. Şi oricând se poate suplimenta prin HDD externe. Etalonul? Teo. Nu e un foarte suplă, însă nici nu e rotofeie. Mai ales după cura urmată.

Multimedia : Notebook-ul dispune de player Blu-Ray, înlocuitorul DVD-urilor clasice. Era şi timpul deoarece DVD-ul e deja un bătrânel şi trebuie să intre în pensie după ce a servit cu onoare încă din anii ’90. Pe un blu-ray putem pune 25 GB (single layer ) sau 50 GB (dual layer). Pe un dvd normal cifrele erau de 4,7 respectiv 8,5. Diferenţa se vede de la o poştă (Când am văzut anul trecut în primăvară, în Franţa, X-Men 3 rulat pe o plasmă de pe un Blu-Ray am rămas tablou. Experienţa e incomparabilă cu cea a unui DVD normal). La capitolul audio notebook-ul stă excelent, calitatea fiind High Definition Audio. Comparabilă cu vocea Aliciei Keys.

Comunicaţii: Notebook-ul dispune de o reţea 10/100/1000 la care puteţi lega ţeava de net, de wireless 802.11a/b/g/n în caz că nu aveţi ţeavă dar aveţi vecini „binevoitori”, un modem 56K dacă mergeţi la bunici sau vă place tortura dial-up precum şi de Bluetooth pentru conectare cu telefonul şi descărcare de poze pentru hi5. Deci are de toate pentru toţi. Din punctul acesta de vedere l-aş compara cu Mircea Badea la emisiunea În gura presei . Pentru că vorbeşte mult, dar cu folos.

Alimentarea se face, atunci când nu aveţi o priză la îndemână, cu ajutorul acumulatorilor Li-Ion cu 8 celule. Acele 8 celule fac diferenţa. E o greutate în plus, dar beneficiul este o autonomie sporită. Tine mult, aproape cât o călătorie cu CFR. Cu deosebirea că în cazul notebook-urilor chiar dorim să dureze cât mai mult.

Sistemul de operare: Windows Vista Ultimate. Cel mai deştept Windows creat până acum. E Einstein-ul sistemelor de operare. Acum susţinătorii Linux sau Mac o să-mi sară în cap, însă aceştia nu fac împreună decât 9% din totalul utilizatorilor de calculatoare. De acea mă pun bine cu majoritatea.

Preţul: 11.267,54 LEI la emag. Adică 4036.8 X 1 verzişor. E doar pentru cei care chiar nu au ce face cu banii, mai ales că la doar 64% din preţ luaţi acest ASUS cu specificaţii clar superioare. Dar uneori marca face toţi banii. Eu îl recomand doar pentru cei care vor să se laude cu el.

Visually, the film is awesome. It just makes me want to turn my brain off and stare at all the pretty colors. It could be the fact that it's my first Blu-Ray film, too. But this film just zooms, at least for the eyes. It sure doesn't zoom elsewhere. For instance, the movie is 2 hours and 15 minutes long, and I felt every minute of it. It shouldn't have been longer than 90 minutes. Most of the time you're stuck watching cars zoom by, and trying to figure out what's going on.

The movie is exactly what I thought it would be - a fairly faithful recreation of the TV series, which I wasn't really into. It did have lots of weaving plot elements, which kept me interested, and the directors did a great job with the art style of the whole thing. The colors in particular were pretty awesome.

And like I expected, it wasn't worth a theater admission price, but totally worth the rental.

Enquanto o DVD oferece resolução de 720x480 pixels, o Blu-Ray apresenta 1920x1080 pixels.

Com o disco Blu-Ray é possível obter imagens com mais definição e contraste, cores mais realistas e vivas.

Para aproveitar todo o potencial do formato é essencial uma tela de alta definição (Full HD 1080P). Além disso, o televisor deve ser equipado com a conexão HDMI.

BD-Java – suporta a programação Java e, portanto algumas mídias blu-ray oferecem jogos interativos dos seus principais filmes e também menus animados.

BD Live – permite que os consumidores baixem conteúdos adicionais dos filmes diretamente dos servidores dos principais estúdios de Hollywood.

Pop-up menu – menu visível durante o filme, sem necessidade de parar a reprodução.

Formato dos dados

Os filmes em alta definição gravados em Blu-Ray são comprimidos em MPEG-2 (mesma compressão do DVD), VC1 e MPEG-4 AVC. Usando os formatos VC1 e MPEG-4 AVC, A compressão de dados é muito mais poderosa, possibilitando armazenar mais horas de filme no disco.
