Quasar dance este, din cate am inteles eu, un grup de dansatori profoesionisti care au decis sa-si imparta experienta si cu altii. Au trei grupe :incepatori, intermediari si avansati. De ce scriu despre ei ? Pentru ca in ei am vazut ca se mai poate face si altceva in afara de baruri si.. ma rog, nu mai zic. In cativa dintre cei care danseaza (desi foarte putini) se vede pasiune, dorinta de a dansa, se vede ca se distreaza si ca le place ceea ce fac. De asta sunt asa de buni ! Pentru ei ceea ce fac nu e un job neaparat, ci o placere. Sper sa va faca o placere si voua acest videoclip cu grupa de intermediari. Fata din mijloc,primul rand e prietena mea.

The Death of Poetry

I don't have anything against the reason why spoken word started, only that it has morphed "poetry" into a term that isn't afraid to admit the emphasis is no longer on the written word. I have been to numerous readings and "slam" events and almost always wonder why the style in which you read overshadows the voice in which you write. No wonder why poetry is dead - the only people writing it are spoken word "artists"* (people who have to cover up the fact that they can't write) and schoolies (people who traintraintrain in writing, gather a bunch of degrees and lose originality in their furious attempt to locate it).

I believe there are tons of great poets out there who will never be heard because of what poetry has become. Most poems that are published don't have much to say, only a whole lot of allusions to what they're trying to say. Footnotes do not a great poem make.

To me, poetry is the language of all people, and when you bury it in study or pepper it over a flashy performance, you cut off the blood supply that ensures our artistic survival.

Here's my own footnote:

*The best "spoken word artist" I have seen is a guy named Steve Ben Israel, a New York City local I had the opportunity of watching at a function at the Bowery Poetry Club. This guy doesn't mimic the voices before him or wrap himself in the fluff of hipster speak; he performs in an unusual, original style because he doesn't know any other way to be.

I was so inspired by his performance, I walked up to him to introduce myself, an introduction I'm sure he doesn't remember. I do, however, think I got high just by shaking his hand. He had performed that night with his son, Baba, a freestyle beatbox/hip-hop artist who has made quite a name for himself on the, well, beatbox circuit. Here's a video of what Baba can do:

Bienvenue sur BeatBox Dream

Bonjour à toutes et à tous, et bienvenue sur BeatBox Dream.

Ce blog, malgré son nom, n'a pas pour sujet direct le BeatBox, mais plutôt la création et l'avancement d'un site qui y est entièrement consacré.

Tout d'abord, je tiens à me présenter rapidement.

Je suis LifeStyler (de pseudo uniquement) et je pratique le BeatBox depuis environ 1 an.

J'ai, depuis un bon bout de temps, eu l'idée de créer un site sur ce sujet, car, sauf erreur de ma part, je n'ai pas encore vu de site francophone traitant de BeatBox.

J'ai vu des blogs, des forums... mais pas de sites.

(Il faut dire que c'est tout de même assez méconnu, quoique, c'est temps-ci, il y a un certain buzz du BeatBox ).

Tout ça pour dire que le projet est tout frais. Si, par hasard, vous passez par là et que :

Vous êtes intéressés par le BeatBox
Avez une connaissance quelconque sur les sites internet (PHP, (x)HTML/CSS, Graphisme, Webdesign ...)
Vous êtes motivés

Coincidindo coa celebración do seu centenario, alá polo mes de decembro trouxemos ao Caderno de Lingua unha manchea de versións do Himno Galego. Clásico, rockeiro, popeiro, aflamencado, machucado, institucional, gaiteiro... o poema de Pondal musicado polo mestre Pascual Veiga chegou a nós de múltiples formas, mesmo nunha versión beatbox-reague coa que nos agasallaron os músicos Martín Prego e Carlinhos Gende no obradoiro de hip-hop que impartiron no colexio alá polo mes de maio. Pouco despois Carlinhos Gende gañou o concurso “3, 2, 1…Click” organizado pola Concellaría de Xuventude de Vigo na modalidade de música co "Himno da GZ beatbox". O obxectivo desta categoría era experimentar co himno galego buscando novas fórmulas diferentes da versión tradicional e o xurado valorou nesta versión a súa orixinalidade e a ruptura respecto do himno galego tradicional.

Besides The Nutcracker, I think Sergei Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf may be the seminal piece of classical music embedded in the heads of American schoolchildren... or at least it was in my grade school years. This is an amazing musical performance. Greg Patillo is a beatboxing flautist, if you can imagine such a thing. I confess, I've been sitting on this video link for more than a year, waiting for just the right day to share it. Enjoy!
