Matt Mulleweg, criador do Wordpress e fundador da Automattic virá ao Brasil daqui mais ou menos um mês. Além de conhecer um de nossos cartões postais (As Cataratas do Iguaçú) e fazer umas compras do outro lado da ponte da amizade (essa parte é brincanagem!), será palestrante no LV Latinoware - V Conferência Latino-Americana de Software Livre, em Foz do Iguaçú, no sábado 1º de novembro, às 18h00.

Há tempos quero fazer 3 coisas: ir a esta conferência, conhecer Foz e tomar uma breja com o Matt.  Portanto, estou tentando montar um grupo para ir até lá e baixar custos de transporte, hospedagem e cerveja - além de ter com quem conversar sobre nerdices relativas a software livre, comunidades, inteligência coletiva e o Wordpress na ida e na volta.

p>Uma ótima notícia para a nossa comunidade é a vinda de Matt Mullenweg, o desenvolvedor fundador do WordPress, para o Brasil. Ele virá para participar da Latinoware - V Conferência Latino-Americana de Software Livre que vai acontecer em Foz do Iguaçu entre os dias 30 de outubro e 1º de novembro. O Matt dará uma palestra no dia 1º, sábado, no COLA-PHP (Conferência Latino Americana de PHP), mini-evento que ocorre dentro da Latinoware.

Os interessados em participar e assistir sua palestra deverão se dirigir ao site do evento para fazer as inscrições. Até amanhã, dia 1º de outubro, o valor é de R$45,00. Depois os valores vão subindo:

• de 02/10/2008 a 15/10/2008: R$ 65,00.

I've been tracking BuddyPress for a couple of months now - I came across a post on Mashable today that was called "The 7 Weirdest and Wackiest Uses for WordPress".  I really liked a few of them and a couple were just...wierd.

I'm not saying WordPress is a one-man-band, but it certainly seems to be shaping up to be more than JUST a blog tool.

I have already spoke about BuddyPress, the social plugins for WordPress.  But they mentioned an email newsletter plugin.  That looks cool - the biggest issue for that is a corporate policy at my employer regarding the use of a single system they have.  The big "feature" with WordPress seems to be the idea that you setup a category "newsletter - then things can be sent automatically...very cool.

Funny - they have one as the wordplace chat room - by using a theme called Prologue...I just had a discussion the other day with my co-worker why Yammer is silly and Twitter is a better option.  After review - Yammer is OK...I just have issue with them winning the TechCrunch prize by slightly modifiying a current companies plan.

My big plus for using WordPress as a platform - it just cuts down the clutter of applications, if it can truly handle the job.

So take a peek at the others and let me know if there are any Mashable missed.

La adquisición de Intense Debate por parte de Automattic le dará un fuerte impulso, ya que de esta manera se podrá convertir en el primer proveedor de comentarios de forma centralizada, ya que está previsto que en el futuro esté integrado en los blogs de WordPress.com, el cual, como anuncia Matt, recibe tres comentarios legítimos cada segundo. Pero los usuarios que sigan usando a Intense Debate en sus plataformas de publicación, lo podrán seguir utilizando sin ningún problema, como hasta ahora.

Eso si, los usuarios que a partir de ahora quieran conocer de cerca a Intense Debate, lo tendrán crudo, ya que Intense Debate ha anunciado a través de su blog que volverá su servicio como beta privada.

Los servicios como Disqus, SezWho, o JS-Kit, deberán de trabajar a partir de ahora mucho más duro que nunca, ya que la integración de Intense Debate en Automattic lo convertirá en el líder de este tipo de servicios.

Now, from the Mindanao Bloggers entry about the Wordcamp Philippines and the upcoming 2nd Mindanao Blogging Summit in General Santos, I came across Matt Mullenweg's name and discovered this is the guy behind Automattic and founder of Wordpress and bbPress. I did check out his blog and saw the photo of this young lad with a cute face. Darn! This kid must have it all... looks, money (INC has declared Matt as one of their Top 30 Entrepreneurs Under 30), incredible mind (dropping out from University of Houston doesn't prove anything...) and creative even.(wipes drool...) Just look and admire the template of his blog. Hay, it must be great having almost everything at 24...

Scribbled a fairly short unseen analysis. Did Prose, have uneasy feeling that I veered away from Author's Intent.

Plodded through a dastardly, disgusting and difficult (alliteration!) comprehension about Alzheimer's.

Automattic buys Intense Debate, promises improved WP.com commenting.

Automattic, the folk behind WordPress, has now acquired Intense Debate -- a comment system that "enhances and encourages discussion on your blog or website".

In particular, ID fits between the WordPress blogging platform and the Akismet spam-fighting system. There have also been requests for ID at the hosted WordPress.com service; however, if the support forums are any guide, there have been more requests for Disqus, a comment system that competes with ID.

Jon of ID is excited about wider distribution and about integration of ID with the Automattic offerings. To balance that, he emphasized that ID will continue to work on other blogging platforms, such as Blogger and Movable Type. Similar points come from the Automattic side of the deal, from Matt and from Toni.

ID will remain a stand-alone service that can be used with WordPress as well as many other types of web sites (similar to the way we run our Akismet and Gravatar services). In addition, some ID features and technology will be built directly into future versions of WordPress and Gravatar.

It'll be interesting to see how competing firms react. I'm thinking in particular of Disqus, which currently uses Akismet. In other words, one of its main competitors has just been acquired by the developer of a service it uses. Mashable Adam contacted Disqus, and his post includes a quote from CEO Daniel Ha, but there's understandably little in the way of specifics.

Finally, the timing of Intensomattic deal is such that it'll be overshadowed by the Google/T-mobile circus. That's a pity, because it's a significant change to the social media landscape.

The smart guys at Automattic, although generally cautious not to jump on every social media fad that comes around the corner, have also been watching the emergence of comments as an important piece of the blogging equation, and have been studying the space, and the players, over the course of the summer.

Today, Automattic announced that it is acquiring the comment service Intense Debate, a portfolio company of the TechStars startup program out of Boulder, Colorado. I'm excited to see the service rolled out across the Wordpress platform, and, hopefully, for comments to play a more central role not just amongst the earliest of early adopters, but across the blogosphere as a whole. As a blogger, I can tell you that there is little more rewarding than to receive comments to a post, and I am willing to be that a service like Intense Debate will improve the experience of commenting and blogging as a whole.

I'm also excited to see Automattic extending their product offering with the addition of small teams that have made important innovations in the space.

Over the past year, several startups (including IntenseDebate, Disqus, SezWho, and JS-Kit) have launched improved commenting systems for blogs (and beyond) and have shown that they can create better comment flow, management, tracking, and organization. Given how core comments are to blogging, we decided a while ago that we'd like to offer a top-notch commenting service ourselves. We got to know the ID (IntenseDebate) team through Matt's involvement with the TechStars program and as we started talking to them in more depth, it became clear that we have a lot in common. ID is a small and frugal team focused on technology and product -- just like us. Several thousand publishers have already
enabled ID on their sites including many WordPress users.

The WordPress Staff conducted a laser test a few months back they invited a few selected WordPress.COM & WordPress.ORG members to per take in on the laser test were there eyes were tracked by a laser to see with the current dashboard how there eyes would relate to the dashboard setup then after the study was complete they studied there data and started designing the prototype dashboard Code name "GrazyHorse" which is a totally revamped dashboard with more flexibility as well as better navigation setup...

Update I created a screen cast While I was checking out the "CrazyHorse" Demo Site.

Working on installing the BuddyPress (community building tools) from Automattic.  It must be installed with WordPress MU (MultiUser), but that is more of a benifit than a drawback.  This is very cool - I'm having some issues with the install, but the maillist is proving to be helpful. Could use a bit more documentations - but I'm enjoying the challenge.

Please let me know if you working on any install of this combo yourself.

Para quem pensou que o post A Vida Google - Larry Page, Sergey Brin, Eric Schmidt revisam Descartes era uma egotrip, foi uma contribuição à reportagem acima.

Além da boa matéria e excelente dicas sobre o Google, na mesma edição há uma entrevista com Matt Mullenweg, criador do Wordpress e fundador da Automattic. A cada entrevista, eu respeito mais o Matt. Se rolar uma versão do WordCamp em São Paulo (não precisa nem ser igual ao Wordcamp San Franscisco) e ele vier, garanto que algumas cervejas que ele beber serão por minha conta.

PS: Tenho que atualizar o post "A Vida Google..." com um novo produto Google, o browser Chrome, que não vou falar aqui pois já tem muita gente boa falando. Não vou nem mencionar a fantástica estratégia de divulgação na forma de uma ótima história em quadrinhos produzida pelo Scott McCloud, fantástico estudioso do meio, que sou também mega-fã. Ops, falei!
