How do anti-humanity 'Palestinian' leaders manage to talk [in
the UN, or infiltrating "peace" & "socialists" movements] about "human rights"?

The wonder isn't just about the Islamic Hamas butchers but even when it comes to the "moderate" Fatah that still glorifies mass murderers as "heroes/martyrs" and hosts those hate
sermons that justifies the killing of the infidels on its official TV.

What's "human rights" or "human" about a cult that worships death for its children and for its adversary?

How can one talk about "human rights" when the basic right of surviving of Israelis is in question by most 'Palestinians' (polled) or by its leadership?

Then you have (almost) the entire bigoted Islamo Arab world that again wouldn't give a hood if an Arab 'Palestinian' is OK or not, but the intolerance against the "other", the Israel, never
loses its steam.

Never underestimate the power of 'anti Israel bigotry'! That galvanizes so many that couldn't care less what happens to (any) Arabs, but found one more venue where to hit at innocent Israel and add to it's battered image.

Which explains why you never hear praise, for all amazing and unbelievable efforts by humane Israelis to keep highest respect for human rights [from harsh court and enforcement for any abuse, to easing restrictions in terror infested neighborhoods] of those that seek to harm them, all while despite imperative security of its people who's at cost.

This is an important video for all to see even if it is as a way of finding the holes in its thesis.

This is an important video for all to see even if it is as a way of finding the holes in its thesis. Before seeing it is important that the viewer realizes that this video does not make a serious attempt to draw a distinction between the Neocons and their possible connection with 911, and other Jews, and could potentially incite unfounded hatred against a larger population, who like the rest of American's were victims.

At times this video shows footage that is not accurate, and it does so in order to convey a story that is known to be true, but for which no footage exists, a case in point is the footage of the dancing Israelis of 911; some of the footage of dancing men is not accurate.

Some topics discussed in this video are:

The Lavon Affair,

The Attack of the USS Liberty, and its cover-up by the USA government,

The Odigo Prior warnings of 911,

The Fox News coverage of the Israeli spies moving about prior to 911, and the fact that they were living very near some of the terrorists accused of 911. This Fox News expose was subsequently forced off the air, some claim, as a result of nefarious machinations by a Zionist watchdog trying to sensor how ordinary Americans perceive Israel.

Zim Shipping, the shipping company half owned by the Israeli government, and which broke its lease in the WTC nearly 2 weeks prior to the attacks of 911.

Dov Zerkeim, and his dual citizenship as well as the vast amount of dollars (trillions) missing under his appointment at the Pentagon. This video mentions Dov Zerheim employment in a firm involved in remote piloting technologies often mentioned in connection to the 911 events.

The attempted bombing of the Mexican congress by Mossad agents at around the same time as the tragic 911 events.

Curiously this video make no mention whatsoever of the EXTREMELY unlikely trades in investments vehicles that took place shortly prior to 911 and of the handsome profits reaped and as of yet unclaimed. This clearly prove that there was prior knowledge of the tragic events that would befall Americans.

It is imperative that the makers of this video tone down comments that can be used to implicate a larger population in the tragic events of 911. We are tired of hearing the USA media implicate all Muslims in these tragic events, but this does not justify the opposite approach, even if most feel more compelling evidence exists. The idea is to implicate those involved, and not a whole population. The Nazis were "The Nazis" not "The Christians", although all the Nazis may have been Christians.

Following is the introduction provided by the video's directors:

"Now you will discover the definitive truth about 9/11 and learn why even the most popular movies on the subject have failed to address the evidence exhaustively presented in this video. The facts will make it abundantly clear that the so-called 9/11 "Truth" movement has been infiltrated and is ultimately controlled by the same criminals group who masterminded the attacks. As they say, 'if you want to control the dissent you lead the dissent.' Utilizing evidence from the FBI, CIA, NSA, US Armed Forces Intelligence sectors, Foreign Intelligence organizations, local law enforcement agencies
and independent investigators, Missing Links goes where no other 9/11 video has dared to."

Is 'Allah' A False God?
By Amil Imani

The New Testament tells how the Christians have to regard Islam. The apostle John wrote in his first letter, "Every spirit which does not acknowledge that Jesus has come in the flesh... is the spirit of the antichrist..." (1 John 2:18-23; 4:1-6).

“We must therefore confess with all humility that the spirit in Islam is the spirit of the antichrist. Muhammad had heard much about Jesus, but, in spite of all, he denied the crucified Son of God.”

Before the advent of Islam, the Arabs were idol worshipers. One of the historians by the name of Vaqqidi said that the Arabs had 360 Gods for each day of the year and the largest and the main God was called “Allah.” They were pagan, a polytheistic culture. Interestingly enough, not many Muslims want to accept that Allah was already being worshipped at the Ka’ba in Mecca by Arab pagans before Muhammad came along.

So that’s where Allah comes into the picture; eventually this idol becomes Islam’s God. When the Muslims say: Allah-o-Akbar or God is great, in reality; they refer to this large statue which was worshiped by the Bedouins in the Arabian Peninsula. Islam is paganism cult wrapped in monotheistic dogma.

"The Religion in the sight of Allah is Islam." (Qur'an 3:19)

Christians have come to believe that the Wisdom of the Lord is greater than the Muslim Sword commonly used to conquer and force its victims to obey the Allah’s manifestation: the Quran.

Islam is a grand delusion, birthed by Muhammad’s hallucination that he relayed to his first wife and employer, Khadija. Greatly frightened, he told Khadija that he was visited by jinn (devil) in the Hira cave. Khadija comforted the distraught man by assuring him that the episode was Allah’s way of choosing him as his messenger. Muhammad believed his rich wife-employer who was 15 years his senior and the delusion became a belief—Islam.

Islam is rooted in the primitive tribal mentality of “We against Them,” “We the righteous against the heathens,” “We the servants submissive of the Great Allah against the rebellious enemies of Allah.” Islam is a polarizer. Islam is an enemy-maker. To Islam, a non-Muslim is a combatant against Allah and he is fair game to be subjugated and killed.

Through a highly effective indoctrination, the jihadists have come to believe firmly in Islam’s grand delusion. They believe that Allah is the one and only supreme creator of earth and heavens; that it is their duty and privilege to abide by Allah’s will and carry out his plans at all costs; they believe firmly in a gloriously wonderful immortal afterlife in paradise, for which a martyr’s death is the surest quickest admission. Although the dominating theme of the delusion is quasi spiritual, the promised rewards of the afterlife awaiting the martyr are sensual and material. All the things and activities that the jihadists desire and cannot attain or practice, and reject in their earthly life will be purified and proffered to them in the paradise of the next life.

Islam is basically an instruction manual on manipulating human behavior (behavior modification of the sort a la Skinner) to manufacture consent a la Chomsky (Chomsky and American neo-cons are 1400 years behind manufacturing consent methods used by the mullahs to convince human being against his or her own pre-wired and genetic programming of survival instincts to become martyrs and recruit suicide brigades in one or two sessions of religious Sermon…Talk about manufacturing consent) among the masses and to render their brain and reasoning ability irrelevant and disabled so they can be used as unthinking and unquestioning tools of blind subjugation of fear to fill their mosques and to prefer death over life.

Iran and all other "Arab" states - including Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Egypt, Tunisia, and Algeria, as well as the entity under the Palestinian Authority - were originally non-Arab nations that were conquered by the Muslim Arabs when they spread out from the Arabian peninsula in the first great wave of jihad in the 7th century, defeating, killing, Iran enslaving, dispossessing, converting, or reducing to the lowly status of dhimmitude millions of Christians and Jews, Zoroastrian exodus to India, and destroying their language (Phoenicians in Lebanon didn't speak Arabic, Iran is the only country that was able to sustain its own language, thanks to our brave poet, Ferdowsi) ancient and flourishing civilizations.

Prior to being Christian, of course, these lands had even more ancient histories. Pharaonic Egypt, for example, was not an Arab country through its 3,000-year history.

We need to work on Islamic de-colonization of mind and souls andidentify the devastating pathological effect of this totalitarian ideology a la Victim Fanon, which calls for extermination of everything non-Islamic and considers itself absolute truth before we can even have the ability to overcome and recognize any future attempts at colonization by the West (reform movement in Iran being a concoction of the American Left).

There are many decent immigrants who consider America their home. They love this country, perhaps a bit more than those people who were born in it. They understand the danger clearly. These lovers of America will do anything to save the Western civilization and this great nation from the threat of Islamofascism. A German immigrant wrote this to me: I love America but its political correctness is suffocating and shows too much tolerance towards its enemy at home.

These are terribly trying times for all of us. Free people must decide their priorities with foresight and wisdom and shy away from shortsighted simplistic solutions. It is by far more prudent to face the implacable Islamofascists on the march now than wait and witness another 9/11.

Take a look at the first (long, and quite articulate) comment on my previous post. Serge makes a number of good arguments that merit discussion, so I'm going to take the opportunity he provides to clarify and expand upon a few of the points he questions.

Serge:

First of all, I don't mean to imply at all that identity is merely local, but rather that it contains a local component: a person's identity is shaped by numerous group memberships, from family to town to tribe to nation to state to religion to--for the very enlightened among us--humanity writ large. My point is that when a revisionist Zionist argues (and believe me, they do) that there is nothing wrong with relocating a Palestinian Arab to another Arab country--that Arabs are essentially interchangeable--they are ignoring the intimate connection between person and place, and denying a family from, say, Hebron the right to count "being from Hebron" as an integral aspect of their identity rather than being lumped together with a group of people that is in a sense foreign to them. This is, meanwhile, entirely abstract and academic when compared to the much more tangible sufferings involved in being kicked out of one's home, but I'll save that for another post.

Secondly, I'm sorry to say that I disagree with you when you consider my "straw men" to be discountable minorities. While academic circles have certainly long abandoned the notion of ethnic purity, spurious ethnic divisions continue to fuel conflicts all over the world. What is "ethnic cleansing" about if not purity? Just look at the situation in the Caucasus, or the Balkans, or in Sudan (and various other African countries). What I'm saying i that ethnicity is a historically constructed idea and not an immutable, ahistorical truth. The development of "ethnic" identities is tied in with political histories, so often invented to exploit imagined differences and similarities in the justification of conflicts and atrocities.

My gripe is with those who say things like "Well, Jews and Arabs/Hutus and Tutsis/Serbs and Albanians/whites and blacks hate each other by nature, and it's always been that way, and there's nothing we can do about it," when in fact each and every one of these conflicts has a material, historical explanation that does not rely on abstract ethnic conflicts. For over a thousand years, Jews found protection and prosperity in the Muslim world while in Christendom they were killed, expelled, forced into ghettos and treated as pariahs; and yet today, as a result of modern world events, we find a widespread myth that Islam is inherently anti-Jewish. Call them "straw men" if you like, but these people exist, and this kind of ahistorical defeatism is more prevalent in debates over these conflicts than you or I would like it to be.

Now, you may never have heard anyone say that Arabs look the same or have a single culture--probably because most of the people who hold these opinions don't spend much time talking about Arabs. If they did, they might learn something. I don't know how well-connected you are with the U.S. zeitgeist, but in my experience, conflation, confusion, and ignorance of the complexities of Arab (and worse, Islamic) societies is the rule, not the exception. You may call people who don't know the difference between the Maghreb, Levant, and Gulf "not the cleverest of people," but I assure you that the lowest common denominator of American society do not know what the Maghreb is, cannot find their own states (to say nothing of Iraq) on a map, and think "madrasa" means "terrorist training camp." You can forget about "homogeneously Arab" and "ethnic minorities"; they haven't gotten past "towelhead." And these people vote.

Let me remind you furthermore that a person who thinks global warming is a myth and evolution is an ugly rumor currently occupies the White House.

Now, to your third point. Perhaps, when I say "Zionism," I should be more specific and say "revisionist Zionism," the anti-apologist wing founded by Vladimir Jabotinsky that brought us Irgun and Likud. This right wing of Zionism--growing in power since the 80s with the help of Jewish fundamentalists--believes that "Judea and Samaria" belong rightly to the Jews, and have absolutely no qualms about the permanent expulsion of the Palestinians. You can't call them "a few"; they are many, they are well-supported by American lobbyists, and they more than occasionally produce Prime Ministers.

Yet I still feel that to absolve "Zionism" as a whole is to be too kind. The core goal of the original Zionist project--Revisionist, Labor, or otherwise--was the establishment of a Jewish state in Palestine with a sustainable Jewish majority. In order to achieve this goal, a sizable proportion of the Palestinian Arab community had to be forcibly expelled from their homes (an order given by David Ben-Gurion, a Labor Zionist to the left of Jabotinsky), and myths of Palestinian non-existence and a self-directed exodus were invented to justify this crime. Of course, Israel did not expel all of the Arabs from all of Palestine, but there is no denying that the foundation of the Jewish state required the "ethnic cleansing" of what was to become its sovereign territory in order to ensure a Jewish majority there. For this reason, although most Israelis support a two-state solution to the crisis, even the most left-wing of them would never in their wildest dreams support the right of Arab exiles or their descendants to reclaim their homes in Israel proper--to allow this would be to destroy the Jewish majority and the Jewish character of the state.

This selfsame right of return being a condicio sine qua non for a settlement on the Palestinian side, can you blame the cynics?

[caption id="attachment_1496" align="alignleft" width="170" caption="The tanks are for a movie, you say?"][/caption]

Earlier this month I mentioned that the Arab coup d'etats that came immediately to my mind in the aftermath of the latest Mauritanian coup occurred in late spring or summertime. However, the indispensable alle reminded me of several other coups occurring in November, May, January. I gave several reasons for my belief that summer was a good time for a coup, some of which are not necessarily confined to that season. As alle suggested, I decided to go through as many Arab coup d'etats I could and catalogue them by month and decade in a spreadsheet, with graphs. Eventually, I hope to add any coups I may have missed and apply Sam Huntington's three categories of coup to the data. Here are my initial impressions of the admittedly unscientific and general sample I gathered:

(1) The assumption that coups are more likely to be staged in the summertime than other seasons is only partially justified. The most coup prone months were July (7 coups), November (6 coups), August (5 coups), April and September (4 coups each). Coups occur in almost every month (October is the exception). Summer and autumn show higher activity than other seasons. Coups occur over more month in the summer than in the autumn, and the summer months have more coups on average (4.6) than autumnal ones (3.3). Autumn's lower average is due to a lack of activity during October. Originally, I had offered a couple of reasons as to why I assumed that summertime would be the most common time for coups to occur. One was that summer was a time when leaders were likely to be out of the country or the capital on foreign visits or vacations, allowing those with a thirst for power to seize power more easily. This is also true of spring and early winter (leaders often make official visits at the beginning and end of the year). Coups while a leader is abroad are not as common as one might think, though, and they tend to take place in countries with small populations and low levels of development. Using Sam Huntington's three coup categories, only one Arab state, Algeria, has seen a "Veto coup d'etat," in which the military intervenes to override the overwhelming popular will of the people. Military coups in the Arab world are often bloodless as acts in and of themselves, though they may precipitate (or at least exacerbate) inter-communal or inter-party violence as they have in Iraq, Algeria, Sudan, and Comoros. Exceptions to this include the Iraqi coup of 1958, in which the putschists rather unceremoniously put the kibosh on the royal family.

(2) Since 1949 the Arab world has not known a decade in which there has not been at least two successful coup d'etats. The 1960's through 1980's are especially coup-laden, and the 2000's have thus far known only two coups, both of them in Mauritania, fewer than any other decade. It is important to note the Cold War context of these decades, both the global Cold War between the United States and the Soviet Union, but also the "Arab Cold War" between the "progressive" republican (and often Arab nationalist) Non-Allied states and the conservative, often monarchical, Western allied ones. In view of this, the frequency of Arab coups is similar to sub-Saharan Africa's during the 1960's and 1970's in its elevated number of coups. In the most coup afflicted states, periods during or following armed conflict, the period after the first Arab-Israeli War, the Sahara War, or the Sudanese Civil War for instance, are particularly active. During and after the 1980's, coups drop off. Many states made their peace with Israel or accepted American patronage and developed a more effective internal praetorian complex in which organized domestic opposition from the military or other groups was co-opted, neutralized, or eliminated. Many of the leaders who came to power in the 1980's have remained in power since, or until very recently. Coups after the middle 1980's tended to occur outside of the American sphere of influence, particularly in Arab Africa. Several of these states were incapable of building a strong authoritarian order in the face of a variety of centrifugal forces, and a lack of strong unifying forces, politically, culturally, or otherwise. A variety of particular factors, which I will not parse, contributed to this failure in each state and continue to plague the weakest Arab states. As Naison Ngoma wrote in 2004,

[T]he seemingly unremitting rate of coups [ . . . ] shows that despite the improvements of sub-Saharan Africa’s economic performance (which is generally considered synonymous with the democratisation of the states) the danger of coups d’état remains high. Society’s expectations have tended to supersede governments’ economic capacity. The solution in this regard would seem to be economies performing beyond the demands made by the general society. Since this is hardly likely, given the general lack of capacity of the states in the region, military coups remain a realistic threat."

(3) Syria, Mauritania, Comoros, and Sudan lead the coup count. Syria has had the most, though all of these occurred between 1949 and 1970. Comoros's first coup came less than a year after its independence in 1975. Mauritania's first coup came during the disastrous war in the Western Sahara, when mismanagement of the war effort caused military leaders to depose Mokhtar Ould Daddah in 1978. Close up, Mauritania's tradition of coup and counter coup during the early 1980's is reminiscent of Syria's during the early 1950's and 1960's: both begin with disastrous wars, disgruntled military men, and a weak national identity ending with a strong man dictator of many years. Mauritania appeared to have broken that cycle for a brief time in 2007. The chances of that democratic experiment being restarted are lower than they might be if the former president had been removed legally. What will follow is increasingly murky.

Suggestions/recommendations, observations, comments, questions, corrections, etc. are welcome and encouraged.

In nearly every instance, the myth of “pure” ethnicities is busted by the facts of histo

In nearly every instance, the myth of "pure" ethnicities is busted by the facts of history; any student of history understands that the very concept of cogency, to say nothing of uniformity, among a so-called ethnic group is complicated to a large degree by the movement of people across political, national and ethnic borders throughout spans of centuries. If, for example, all Europeans (and a good deal of non-Europeans as well) are descended from Charlemagne, then whatever ethnocentric ideological delusions we may uphold in our minds, the fact remains that we are all, to some degree, a) related, and b) Frankish.

The ethnic concept that we refer to as "Arabs" is no exception to this rule. I can't tell you how many times, over the past few weeks, I have come across a person who, judging from appearance alone, might have stepped straight out of South Boston or the South Bronx, thought "there's no way they're from here," and been proven wrong within the same minute. Anyone who believes that all Arabs look alike has surely never lived among them.

And this should come as no surprise; after all, the Arab world stands at the crossroads of three continents, and its historical commerce of influence (both given and taken) is found as far afield as England and China. "The Arabs," as they are called, are as a matter of historical inevitability an internationalized population: a mix of Semites, Turks, Aryans, Caucasians, Africans, and Indians, to name the most obvious. Thus while many self-described Arabs do look the Semitic stereotype of olive skin, black hair, and big noses, many others do not. This is one of the ironies of pan-Arab nationalism: if Nasser wanted ethnic unity, exactly what ethnicity was he talking about?

The other irony is this: as convenient as it is for some to believe that all Arabs, everywhere, are culturally indistinct, sharing a uniform set of values and practices, the fact remains that they are not. When the great Arab nationalist romantics of the twentieth century set out to unify their people under one flag, they seemed not to consider the vast differences that separate an Egyptian from a Yemeni from an Iranian Arab in Khuzistan. An example of this presumption backfiring is to be found in the Iran-Iraq war: when Saddam Hussein invaded Iran, he marched his troops into Khuzistan, expecting to be greeted by the local population of ethnic Arabs as a liberator from the lascivious Persian tyrants. His presumption was proven astonishingly incorrect.

For a more local example, take the occupation from 1949-1967 of the West Bank and Gaza by Jordan and Egypt, respectively. The populations of these territories never considered themselves Jordanians or Egyptians, nor do the millions of Palestinians now living in Jordan, Lebanon, and other neighboring Arab countries consider themselves to belong to the local nationality. They may have loyalties to their host countries, but they remain self-identified as Palestinians.

The old Zionist argument, still reverberating in some circles, is that there is no such thing as a "Palestinian," and that there never was; after all, how can a people profess a national identity based on a state that was carved out of one foreign empire by another foreign empire just a few decades ago? What is a "Jordanian" or a "Syrian" or an "Iraqi" when these states are complete fabrications, Arabs are Arabs, and there is nothing to differentiate one from the other?

(It is ironic to note that while Nasser's pan-Arabist project no doubt scared the piss out of Israel, the revisionists were more than happy to borrow his rhetoric part and parcel when it suited their agenda.)

This is a question that remains unresolved among circles of high scholarship, and yet to me it seems strikingly explicable. The first, simple answer is that while the precise borders of the modern Arab states were drawn after World War I, they reflect to some degree already existing borders drawn earlier by the Ottomans. Take a look at this map of the Levant in 1914:

One can see here the semblance of modern borders, particularly that along the Jordan river, and the borders of modern-day Iraq to the east. Note the location of administrative centers in Beirut, Amman, Damascus, and Jerusalem. Of course, this doesn't really answer the question, as these borders--which shifted throughout the 19th century as a result of Ottoman hegemonic decline and political upheavals in Istanbul--were themselves the design of a foreign imperial power. Nonetheless, the point is made here that political divisions in the Arab world are not a modern novelty.

1914 is, however, not that far from 1919, so perhaps that map doesn't drive the point home. Take a look, then, at this map of the Abbasid Caliphate in the late 8th century:

Note the existence of Palestine, Egypt, Syria, Iraq, Yemen, Oman, Bahrain, and Armenia.

The point I'm trying to make with these maps is that the idea of a contiguous political entity encompassing the entire Arab world has not existed since the time of the Umayyads, and that the formation of distinct, local political identities based on the constant division of the Arab world over the course of the past twelve centuries is not so terribly farfetched.

Fine, one might retort; so there was a Palestine. There still weren't "Palestinians" until the Zionists came along. Well, my answer to that is that there weren't "Israelis" either. Nobody questions the national pride of Israelis, Pakistanis, Irish, Poles, Lebanese, Mauritanians, Zambians, Koreans, Laotians, or Mongolians; not one of these countries existed one hundred years ago. Is it really so hard to believe that a people's identity is shaped historically in real time? That events as fresh as those of 1918-1948 could play a part in the shaping of a "Palestinian" identity? Can we really play a game of "I was here first" with the constant flux of historical relationships between people and land? Modern nation-states are not so much the product of ancient ethnic divisions as they are of modern political and ideological developments, of imperialism and globalization. Jordan is a young country, relative to some, and yet the events that won it its sovereignty, however recent, are important to its people. The word "Jordanian" refers on its most basic level to the people born within a certain, arbitrary geographical area, but also refers to people who relate on a personal level to a particular history of imperial control and freedom from it--the fact that there are Jordanians still alive today who remember the country's founding makes the relationship between their national identity and this history stronger, not weaker. This history, unique to Jordan, sets apart this group of people, "ethnically" and linguistically indistinguishable from their neighbors, just as the unique modern histories of so many young countries transformed them from hazy political entities into nations. Can "Arabs" not be both Arabs and something else at the same time?

The idea that people with a shared ethno-linguistic heritage will develop the same identity everywhere, much less to wish for political unity, seems to me a much more bogus claim, for the precise reason that it ignores the interplay of political and cultural histories. Tajiks and Iranians speak a virtually identical language, and share an "ethnic" identity to boot, yet you do not hear clamors in Dushanbe for political union with Iran, nor would the people of either country take kindly to the idea of the Tajiks being relocated en masse to Iran. Imagine the UN deciding to found a Gypsy homeland in Switzerland, and relocating the Swiss to Germany because they speak the same language. Does this make sense?

No. And why not? Because there is more to an identity than language and ethnicity. There is more to it even than that nebulous catch-all term "culture." Identity is local; it is tied to the land of ones birth and of ones ancestors. In the Arab world, the severe localization of identity politics is readily apparent, and has much to do with the importance of family and community, and with the presence of tribal modes of thinking in very recent and even contemporary history. An Arab anywhere may be an Arab everywhere, but that does not mean they are the same. In Egypt, everyone is Egyptian, but any Egyptian knows the difference between a Cairene and a northern Bedouin and an Upper Egyptian fellah. Likewise, a Jordanian from Amman and a Jordanian from Salt are both Jordanian, but one is Ammany, and the other is, well, Salty. Here, your identity and relationships can reflect something as small-scale as what side of what town you live on, which may in turn reflect what side your family took in a century-old dispute. Of course, there is on top of that the division between city and country--a division longer-standing here than in Europe--and the various national self-conceptions that have emerged through political history.

It is doubly ironic, then, that Zionism professes the Jews' right to the land of their forefathers and at once denies another people the right to the land of their grandfathers. When the Jewish fundamentalists of Gush Emunim, asked what is to be done with the Arabs of Palestine, answer "they can go to Jordan," this expresses not only racism and an ignorance of history, but a genocidal ambition.

As religious fundamentalists gain power in both Jewish Israel and Arab Palestine, and a question of land and history becomes reduced to a competition between two psychotic crusades of attrition, the potential for peace between these two persecuted peoples--neither one more or less deserving of a national home than the other--becomes more and more remote. But one thing I can say for certain: until the Palestinians are recognized as a people unto themselves, with roots in a slice of land from which they were wrongfully removed, and not merely as part of a homogeneous mess of "Arabs," the point of the discussion will remain entirely lost.

Algerian's songs of defiance live onSince his killing, he has become voice for Berber minorityBy Michael Slackman Published: MONDAY, OCTOBER 10, 2005TIZI OUZOU, Algeria: High in the jagged mountains covered with olive and fig trees, his voice booms from a minivan as it twists along narrow winding roads to drop off students after a day of school.

Head down into this city and there he is again, this time larger than life, in a poster mounted on a café wall while, of course, his voice booms from the stereo behind the counter. In shops, offices, restaurants - everywhere in this region, it seems - is the voice of Lounes Matoub.

"Never surrender, never surrender," he sings, strong and folksy.

"Of course times change, but you should never forget."

Someone tried to silence Matoub on June 25, 1998; his car was sprayed with 79 bullets. Instead, he became in death a powerful symbol of defiance for an ethnic minority that has challenged the government's decision to define Algeria as an Arab nation.

This is Kabylia, one of Algeria's most restive regions - home to a stubborn and proud ethnic minority of Berbers who since the end of the colonial era four decades ago have fought to preserve their cultural identity and independence.

... Next, Harrison looks at definitions of fascism. The phenomenon is not confined to the political Right, since the USSR was as fascist as the Third Reich. Nor is it absent in the Third World. The inability to distinguish between people and their leaders is a fallacy often made by patronising Western intellectuals. As for the [racist Arabs'] accusation that Israel is a "racist, apartheid" state, the author argues that it is instead a nearly textbook example of a multicultural society. There are Black Israelis and Arab Jews and anyone can convert to Judaism. In Israel the holy places and right to worship of all religions are respected, which is not the case over vast areas of the planet.

You can expect a shameless propagation of the fashionable but phony "genuine flag" terroristic paradigm but, if only for sake of propaganda analysis, it may be worth the watch just the same... It certainly was put together well from a cinematographic point of view.

The FBI arrives in Saudi Arabia to mop up the mess of the consequences of a type of warfare the CIA started... Ironic yet typical.

When a terrorist bomb detonates inside a Western housing compound in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, an international incident is ignited. While diplomats slowly debate equations of territorialism, FBI Special Agent Ronald Fleury quickly assembles an elite team and negotiates a secret five-day trip into Saudi Arabia to locate the madman behind the bombing. Upon landing in the desert kingdom, however, Fleury and his team discover Saudi authorities suspicious and unwelcoming of American interlopers into what they consider a local matter. Hamstrung by protocol-and with the clock ticking on their five days-the FBI agents find their expertise worthless without the trust of their Saudi counterparts, who want to locate the terrorist in their homeland on their own terms. Fleury's crew finds a like-minded partner in Saudi Colonel Al-Ghazi, who helps them navigate royal politics and unlock the secrets of the crime scene and the workings of an extremist cell bent on further destruction. With these unlikely allies sharing a propulsive commitment to crack the case, the team is led to the killer's front door in a blistering do-or-die confrontation. Now in a fight for their own lives, strangers united by one mission won't stop until justice is found in The Kingdom. Written by Universal Pictures

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0431197/plotsummary

Thematic PP elements:

A terroristic attack has been launched against American "guest workers" (?) somewhere in Saudi Arabia. Paranoia's everywhere after the attack, both the feds and Saudis are constantly on the edge by their anticipation of new terroristic attacks. This of course is the whole intention of terror, by definition: it's to scare the living daylights out of the public and pictures like these serve that purpose well.

The mainstream media condoned doctrine of the phantom terrorist leader is once again shamelessly propagated as there is a comparison of the terrorist responsible for the attack, Abu Hamza, with Osama bin Laden, the much media touted elusive terrorist leader.

Of course, the FBI magically manages to dodge all bullets shot at them while they in turn wreak havoc on the assailants, killing most of them. This helps to perpetuate the false belief that American blood is more invulnerable than that of Arabs, thus helping to facilitate easier Army recruitment among naive and unsuspecting young Americans.

Specific PP elements:

In one of the opening scenes there's this little boy, the son of the FBI team leader, playing with a toy replica of a fighter helicopter. This is slightly suggestive to a young audience to want to do the same, thus closing the distance between children and the military.

The depiction of pissed off and mourning surviving US victims emphasizes the callousness of the terrorist attack. The attachment of Islam with the attack serves to demonize Islam in general unfortunately and never for the entire duration of this superficial movie it is asked once where the terrorists obtained their equipment or who or what trained them. Thus the public is further alienated from, and antagonized towards, Islam.

In one of the closing scenes we witness a young Muslim terrorist wannabe repeating the words his dying father whispered to him before succumbing: "Don't fear them, my child. We are going to kill them all." Of course, this helps to drive the wedge between the West and the (middle) East further and exacerbates the flawed and superficial perception Americans have of Arabs as all being potential terrorists. Regarding the instillment of fear for and aggression towards Islam the movie could hardly have ended any better.

DETROIT - Faced with a choice of White House hopefuls they fear are not entirely sympathetic to their issues, American Muslims are stepping up their activism to unprecedented levels in hopes they can influence the upcoming administration in its infancy.

The efforts stem in part from difficulties many Muslim- and Arab-Americans say they have experienced since the terror attacks of Sept. 11, where they have found themselves on the defensive and struggling to convince at times skeptical fellow citizens that they can be both Muslims and loyal U.S. citizens. >>>>>

Stay active, but not just pulling a lever (or pressing a computer button that will record an opposite vote) in a voting booth. Muslims need to continue pointing out the injustices. The democrats are louder now because they don't have the White House yet. However, democrats were duped or even complicit in the drive to smear Muslims. When Clinton was in office, the Muslims were fighting to repeal the Secret Evidence Act. Instead of it happening, The practice of Muslims being convicted on the basis of unknown witnesses who reported lies became a useful tool on the phone War on Terror.

Faced with a choice of White House hopefuls they
fear are not entirely sympathetic to their
issues, American Muslims are stepping up their
activism to unprecedented levels in hopes they
can influence the upcoming administration in its infancy.

The efforts stem in part from difficulties many
Muslim- and Arab-Americans say they have
experienced since the terror attacks of Sept. 11,
where they have found themselves on the defensive
and struggling to convince at times skeptical
fellow citizens that they can be both Muslims and loyal U.S. citizens.

"I've never seen the level of activism I now
see," said Shibley Telhami, a Mideast scholar at
University of Maryland and fellow at the Brookings Institution.

"The number of people who have become more active
and visible on the national political front has
increased dramatically because people have
suddenly sensed that they have to be more active
in order to ... defend themselves as Americans,
defend themselves as Arabs and Muslims," he said…

Dawud Walid, executive director of the Michigan
chapter of the Council on American Islamic
Relations, said neither candidate has officially
met with Muslims in Michigan, an important swing
state with one of the nation's largest Muslim populations.

Walid said that may lead Muslim voters past the
"lesser of two evils," to a third-party candidate
or no candidate at all. In broader terms, it also
raises concerns about both candidates' foreign policy skills, he said.

"If the candidates cannot engage the American
Muslim community in a healthy way, which is the
world's most educated Muslim community, then how
can they strengthen economic ties or have a
meaningful successful diplomacy in the Muslim world?" he said. (MORE)

I landed. A lot of Arabs. The city seems to have a few very rich people and many poor people. There were also giant pictures of Mubarak (the president) hanging up. I guess this is to remind the people who their president has been for the past 20 some odd years. Pictures will be up once I start taking them. See you later.
